Installed K&N Cold Air Intake

I installed this last week. Sounds kind of cool, can't really say the car is any faster but it seems to be improving as the computer figures out the new settings. However, fuel mileage is down about 1 to 2 MPG no matter how I drive (agressive or passive) and if I really get on it the mileage is way way down to numbers I have never seen before. Anyone else using this?

That looks more like ram air than a cold air intake

Kind of a cool design to it though...nice pics, I noticed a big decrease in mpg with my injen CAI so i made it a short ram yesterday, I hate to say it but i like it more, everyone was right on here, it is a lot more responsive.

Don't know about the gas mileage, probably you revving it more to hear the sound (can be addictive)... also takes a while to get an accurate reading. As for the intake itself that's not really a CAI, its a WAI with a heat shield... safer if your worried about water/hydro-locking engine.

Short rams with heat shields are the new best designs now.

I know it is dirty, it's my daily driver. Believe me I wish I still had time to clean this car like I would like to. The problem here is that no matter how clean you keep a car you have to deal with snow & salt for 4 - 5 months out of the year. There is no keeping up with that. It gets on everything and dries out foam & rubber pieces. I used to have a jeep for a second car & could keep my primary ride parked in the winter, then I got married.

What type of cold air intake do you think I could get cheap but has a high performance level?

Air Intake Mod on the Cheap~

Looking for an expiremental air intake mod and cheap...

Go to Home Depot, buy a 2' piece of 3" pvc pipe and 2 - 3" rubber connectors... remove the factory air tube between the air filter and the air intake throttle valve, cut the pvc tube to about 12", clean it good and install it in place of the factory air tube using the rubber connector collars you purchased with the pipe... total price, maybe $8.00...
Hook it up and try it, mine has increased in around town fuel mileage and has a response like never before... along with the K&N air filter it rocks.
It must eliminate some turbulance...
Use a breather filter to plug in to the pvc intake tube...

Hey what is the block of plate you all are talking about? blocking off the egr valve or what???

Looking for someone to try this... I'm pleased with the results for sure...

Final Step

I took this intake set up one step further; went to my local HVAC installer and he gave me a small sheet of insulating "bubble wrap" very flexible and easily formed... I insulated the intake area from the radiator, the air filter box and also the newly installed air tube and part of the throttle valve with this insulating medium... has a space age look, shiny and helps to a minor degree in keeping the incoming air just a tad cooler... performance is always gained in little steps...

2004 SE Auto
18" 245/45/zr/18

The car leaps off the line, major traction problems with medium throttle in first gear...

Also... the car has a new throttle sound that is threatening to other motor heads on the parkway...

I heard you !!!

OK, I took so much grief for having a dirty engine that you guys shamed me into cleaning it. Here are some more K&N Filter shots & other pics of the Max. Who else on this site has a 6-Speed Manual w/Elite Package & matching baby seat !!!

BTW, every morning on the way to daycare my 2 year old says "Go Super Fast Dad !!" She likes the Max too !

So any changes on your mpg? very nice max btw. No elite package for me but i do have a matching baby seat in the back. Became a proud parent 2 months ago. You do anything to protect your seat from the car seat?

Thanks. The milage was bad at first, but as someone pointed out it was most likely because I liked to hear the sound of the intake and rev'd higher than usual. I settled down and the milage went back to normal. I was already running a K&N filter & I would say by installing this intake mileage has not changed much overall. The car runs better though, especially if I press the gas in 6th gear on the highway, better response.

On the baby seat my wife & I both have a protective cover under the seat. You can get them at any store that sells seats.

Congratulations on the new addition to you.

Looks Clean! Autozone has some wipes that will shine up the black parts. It cleans the suface and leaves the plastic a deep dark shine(not greasy).

Also...the next thing I want to get is full catback system and that is it. Right now I only have 20" TSW lowered on Eibach Pro-kit. Plz give me some advice guys. Thanx!
