I've been noticing in my car that the fabric liner on the top (ceiling) of the cabin has been getting progressively darker and dirtier. The dirty areas are above the back seats so I figured it could be one of two things.

1. Driving with the windows down has finally caught with the car and this is just an accumulation of all the road dirt from over the years.
2. I have an exhaust leak right below the back seats and the dirt is from the exhaust leak.

Could either one of these two be the cause? Thanks in advance for the feedback.

 

"Dirt" does not float out of your exhaust and into the cabin. It is from driving with your windows down.

 

If you had an exhaust leak that bad you would probably be dead. Maybe it's moisture leaking in from the roof causing mold?

Yeah, its from driving with the windows down. You should be able to clean it with a damp rag and some elbow grease. If its really bad maybe try some spot cleaner made for fabric.
