Pretty much wondering what's under the felt of the headliner and how sturdy is it?


I have 2 LED light bars that I need to install on my front windshielf (for firefighting, not for bling-blinginess) and if I use the suction cup installation bracket, they hang too low in my field of view. They have another bracket that came with them, but it would require me to screw into the headliner in the space between the sunvisor and the front of the liner itself. So I'm just wondering if the headliner material is any good and if I'll be able to screw in something that weights about 3-4 lbs up into the headliner without fearing that it the screw will just fall out along with my blue lights.

Another idea I had was to just velcro the lightbar to the headliner... but that's pretty ghetto.

and it also came with the "L-brackets" that are on the same page. So the light bar would be held on by 4 screws that are screwed into the headliner (if possible)

 

wont the tint on the top bother it?

 

already checked that, they are bright enough even through the tint

 

I don't think our interior roof liners would hold this item, as you suggested the screws would most likely just get pulled out ... Now if you were to put a 1/8 thick perhaps 1" wide and the length of the light (metal strap) you wish to support with a couple of pre drilled holes in it you might have better luck using a couple of nuts and bolts to pass through the bracket - through the liner and line up with the holes in the metal strap you have on the inside of the liner ... not sure how difficult it would be to drop the liner down a bit so you can work and tighten things up, but I am pretty sure you are going to need something to fasten to on the other side of the liner... just my thoughts on the issue

The headliner (gigity) comes down pretty easy. You could use washers behind it to hang bolts down. The washers would add plenty of strength.

The Velcro will work great. I just checked it out. The hook side of the velcro will attatch directly to the headliner like it was made of Velcro. Just put Velcro on the lights and stick them to the headliner itself. When you remove them you'll never know they were there. You could take them in and out any time you want.

The headliner is a thin, molded plastic piece that is covered in felt/cloth. Whether it can hold the lightbar depends on the weight of the lightbar. Personally, I'd go with the suction cup mount and be done with it, rather than risk having the weight of the thing pull down or tear the headliner.
