It does make a huge difference my 03 resistor for the blower motor went on me earlier this year, mine is the digital display and the new replacement part from the dealer was 151.00 ... For the manual control units the resistor goes for 51.00 ... so yes indeed it makes a difference

Best place to find a used one is probably an auto wrecker ... or just bite the bullet and pick one up at the dealer and install it your self takes a couple of minutes and be done with it.

pull your out and get the part number and get it from Dave B. as it is a common replacement part ... surprised you local dealer doesn't have them in stock ... but Dave is probably your best bet and will no doubt be for the best price, and he ships fast

It is quick to get out just have to unplg it from the blower and take out the two holding screws, no need to undo the glove box and blower motor.

To get the blower motor access, yes the glove box needs to come out but the resistor is located at the bottom and to the side of the blower motor and is held in by two screws you just unplug it from the blower motor and remove the two screws that hold it into the front firewall.
