Article in the Toronto Star confirms it for me...

An article in the Toronto Star (Sat Nov 24) wheels section had a reader ask why in Scotland the owners manual says to change the oil every 16000kms(10000Miles) if driving highway and sooner (12000km) if driving in more extreme conditions?(City or cold weather). I don't know anyone in Scotland but I sure would like to know if this is the fact because that means Northamericans are getting screwed by changing our oil as quickly as our underwear.

"...changing our oil as quickly as our underwear."

Good one... I'll have to remember that ... hehehe...

And not all of us North Americans have been brainwashed by the media. Some of us don't think that by not changing your oil every 3K, your car will explode into fiery bits.

Read the "Oil and ATF Analysis Spreadsheet" thread at the top of the forum.

Alot of it is marketing too. Get you to do it every 3k then that means that you buy more more often. Keeps business good for them. Say it long enough it becomes the thing to believe.
