Does anyone have a recent how to on replacing the alternator? After searching, the only thing I run into is links to Motorvate.ca which, on my computer, does not function. Thanks

 

Run a search for username PMOHR. He has a link in his sig for FSM's. Use one of those.

Do you have a Haynes manual? Just look at that for the bolt locations of the alt. I can scan it later tonight if you want, but it's all in there. It's not very hard, but I had power tools so...

Yea, I have the manual. But sometimes the guys on this forum come up with different ways to do things. The knock sensor is one example. If you go by the manual, you'll be removing the intake manifold.

Use the manual. I just don't know how to explain the bolt positions to you. lol.

But to remove the compressor, do what I did above. VSamoylov (banned member on here) gave me the idea of just detaching the compressor so it wiggles around. I was planning to drop the whole thing. lol.

 

this is a moderately difficult fix, but worth it if you stick with it. shops will charge 2hrs labor for this.

You have to be careful when removing the radiator fan shroud, it's fragile. As Ilyak said, moving, not removing, the AC condensor is the way to go; Even so, I recall having just barely enough room to remove/replace the alternator unit, and it being a pita each time.

Be wary of the special nut that attaches the alty to the block (it is the one closer to the firewall,has a flange). torque it to spec, trust me you don't want it to come off down the road, as you won't notice until it's too late.

the motorvate site has been down for a while. It offers little beyond what's available here from pmohr and Ilyak, except an extra pic or 2.
