i think your buying the car, not us. you decide, 4th gen motors where made one whole hell of alot longer than 5th gen. think about that, and i have 196,500 miles on my 95.

wow Max_Ride shes just a baby! i thought youd at least hit 200K already!

let me put it to you this way 97COMAX the 5th gens are a Bit longer than the 4ths the turning is supposedly outrageous, but they do have 3.5's and 00vis! 7 grand tho? No thanks! Besides youve got a 97 GLE 5speed with Low Miles for a Maxima (im literally HALF your mileage and my max runs perfect and some of the members on here have almost triple what you have)!! thats like the perfect maxima, honestly if your going to sell your 4th gen for a fifth gen at least check one out first and i dont think your going to be drasticly happier, another 7 Grand loan wont feel too good either.. just fix the problems youve got yourself itll cost you next to nothing compared to buying a whole new max!

6500 is about 1000-1500 too much in my opinion. I bet you can find another clean 5th gen if you want to upgrade for a little less. I personally would invest some money maintaining what you currently have for now. If you really like it you could try low balling them on it.

I say keep looking. I've seen some really nice 2000 and 2001 SE's loaded with leather, bose, etc. and 5sp manual with about those miles going on craigslist here in Denver for about 5-6 grand.

i love mine!

to the OP if you looking to get a new max there is a 02 SE 6MT w/HLSD and some mods 135k for 6k or 6.5k in the for sale section.

Cashoit is absolutely right. I have a 99 SE approaching 200,000 miles with no problems with the engine. I use the German Castrol Syntec made in Germany version, not USA version. The car loves it. The only problem is my clutch is finally going and my shocks need to be replaced. That is normal wear and tear for a car with that many miles. I have a quote of $400 for mechanic to replace clutch. Seems pretty fair considering I have been quoted much higher from other mechanics. Stick with the 4th gen and treat yourself to some new upgrades to the car which would be much much less than what you pay for 5th gen.

I do most of my repairs on my own, but gave this one to my mechanic. I got both replaced for under $500. If you're gonna do it yourself, order some raxles.

Too expensive IMO. But 4th and 5th gens tend to be, again IMO.

for performance 5.5
for reliability 5th gen
for the best balance in both 4th gen...
really the only difference in mods is the fact that nobody offers a ECU reflash for a 5th gen (nothin an EU or UTEC cant fix though)... i had 2 95 4ths, 1 5th, and a 5.5... my favorite was the 5th gen (as per sig...... still lol)
