I've been told the serial number on the remote has to match the car....car's vin # or something? Do you know how that works? Is there a "how to" for programming them to the car?

Looking for one...or two!!

as far as I know, these only work with 5th and 5.5 gens. I am not sure as to whether or not they will work with any other years.

programming them is a 5 minute process.

How do I match the FCC id? This is the newest car I've ever owned. Previously, newest was a '01 I30 for two whole weeks. Otherwise, I'm a 3rd gener by heart. So, all help is appreciated!

...Well, did some more research and found that for my 2003 (based on a cross reference provided in a thread addressing programming remotes in the 5th gen thread), that I need the following remote.
Part #: astu15
FCC-ID: kbrastu15
buttons: 4

So, it doesn't match somehow to the vin#?

^^ these remotes will work on any 5th and 5.5 gen maxima. you just won't have the trunk release button, that was common on the '02-'03 maximas.

My 01 remote has the fcc-id: kbrastu10. The remotes for the 5.0 gens are different than the 5.5 gens. These are 5.5 gen remotes (or from some other nissan) without a trunk release.

^^well there you have it. thanks for the clarification. I kept the one with the trunk remote for myself. and seems like no one needs these as a spare. Both are still available.

These are for a Frontier or similar that do not have a trunk release. I can say I programmed my factory 03 maxima remote with trunk release to my ex's 05 Frontier just fine. These remotes are pretty generic for this time frame in Nissan cars. (02+)
