My 96 Maxima Hesitates At Low Rpms

My 96 maxima hesitates at low rpms usually between 2k and 3k in all gears but it is most noticable in 2nd. At first I thought it was my fuel system, and i put in some heavy duty injection and induction cleaner but it had no effect. So i brought it to nissan and got a computer read out and it picked up a knock sensor and a couple other things that seemd unrealated. I was thinking it could be an oxygen sensor maybe. What else could it be?

sounds like it could be a bad coil pack. Mine had a nasty hesitation off the line. And after the 60k tune-up, all new o2 sensors and a few other things turned out to be a bad $70 coil pack
definitly look into that!

my car seems to do this a little, but it improved some when I replaced the fuel filter. The other thing that my car does is after sitting, turned off, for about 30 minutes or so, when you start it up again, you have to crank it for longer than normal, and it acts like it is going to die for just a second after you start it. If it sitts overnight, that does not happen. It also does not happen if you start it up right after you turn it off. This also improved some after I replaced the fuel filter.

Our cars have coil packs at each spark plug. We don't have an ignition coil - each spark plug gets its own controlled spark/ignition through its coil pack. They are directly above each spark plug. If you look at the plug locations you'll see two screws holding the coil pack down. Once you remove the coil pack there is a long rubber tube that carries the voltage to the plug. One that is bad can cause a weak spark = less power. Someone had posted that when his car would get warm one of his coil packs would start to malfunction. There is a method explained in the Haynes manual on how to check the coil packs. YOu'll need a multimeter. Good luck.

i get the exact same problem in scond gear at lowe rpms. I keep a steady foot on the trottle... maybe about 25-50% pressed down. It feels like the the car gives inconsistent power... then at around 3500-4k it all goes normal... weird... i thought it might be spark plug related... but what do i know, i'm still learning about the engine and stuff hehe
