Those are awesome times. A couple things concern me though. Your 60 foots are very impressive (2.1s) and so are you're ets, BUT your trap speeds seem pretty low. Many of the modded 4th and early 5th gens are easily trapping out at over 95mph and many over 96mph. I'm consistently getting 95mph+ traps and unfortunately I missed out running in weather any cooler than mid 70s this year (best of a 14.73@94mph with a 2.28 60', y-pipe, b-pipe, intake). The 6 speed Max is clearly the quickest stock Max out there by a long shot, but it appears it isn't the "top end killer" everyone said it would be. From a roll, I don't know if it could pull on a modded 4th or early 5th gen. It looks like it's advantage is the thick torque down low and LSD that gets it off the line a little better.

BTW, I'm not knocking your runs at all. They are very impressive. Hopefully a Y-pipe will be as effective on these models as in the prior years.

Dave B,

Don't forget, Paul2k6sp before he got rid of it took it to the track. He had a lousy 60ft time(don't remember) but 14.7@97mph! Even though this may not make sense, i read a post here a week back about how a higher 60ft time will result in a higher et, but will give you a faster mph. It doesn't make sense to me, but i'll find the post.

It's too bad we have such a lack of 2002 dyno's. There was one guy{Soundmike} who dynoed his car in 2nd gear and did something else wrong which I can't remember. I have another 450 miles to go[engine break in] and I will most likely do a dyno then, this will show you and other that the 02's have a very nice top end on top of the great low end .

yes...but 3mph better trap is a HUGE difference...I'm guessing that he needs to mess with his shift points a bit...or maybe he's inadvertantly letting off the gas right before the finish line and lowering his traps.....who knows...

Yes, I noticed the low trap speed, also. Especially after Paul got the run at 97 MPH with a 14.7 ET and poor 60 foot time.

I wonder what could be causing the low trap speed? To go from 94 to 97 IS a big difference. Maybe the shifting was a litte slow on the driver's part (no offense, but since you are new to standards and I can't think of another explanation right now). That's all I can think of.

that is correct. i didn't want to bump the rev-limiter on my new baby yet. i shifted around 6300-6400 rpms. i still need to experiment with the shift points. my front tire pressure was 20psi and i launched the car from 2600rpms, walking it out a bit, then dumped it and hammered the gas. the car just grabbed even though i had THEE worst wheel hop i've ever seen, ask anyone who was there. but i still got my 2.1 60ft times so it works. i think if i hold my shift a little longer i will bring my et's back up. and DAVE B, i still do beat modded 4th and 5th gens from a highway roll. ask any of the northeast guys what happened at the pike, or watch the videos.

and thanks to everyone for your support.

Re: 2k2 Maxima 6-spd Times

Wow, wicked times. Doesn't that put a stock 2002 6-spd ahead of an S4 in a head to head race (not to mention WRX, BMW 330)?!? That is F*#&$ awesome. I get my 6 spd in two weeks (its still on the boat, apparently). Can't wait.

Is there any way to infer 0-60 times out of this?

Man, I was thinking of getting an S4 before the economy went down the toilet. I got a 6-spd Maxima as a reasonable "compromise" that I could afford but now it looks like I'll be hunting down high-end german (and japanese) sport sedans. Awesome.

I think alot of people are going to be "unpleasantly" surprised by the 6-spd.

No I shifted at 6500. It wasn't until after I came back from the track did I realize the rev limiter was 7000.

Combine Steve's launches with my shift points and you have a 14 flat stock Maxima. Very impressive. Hmmm... I wonder what the VLSD will do???

Re: 2k2 Maxima 6-spd Times

Can't Wait To Get My 6 Spd!!!

Forgive me if someone has posted already on this matter. I check posts quite often but sometimes I miss a day or two. The 1/4 mile times posted are better then the so much talked about 3.5L Altima (this is such a relief to see ). I've read a few posts where people who have test drove both Maxima and Altima have felt a greater pull on the Altima. dmbmaxima88's numbers seem to show otherwise. In this case I am like the Apostal Thomas; I need to test drive the Maxima 6spd to fully take away doubts. I did test drive the 2002 Maxima automatic. I clocked 0-60 an average of 6.7s in three runs. I was sure the 6 spd would do better then this but all posts I'd read were creating doubt and making me drift from the truth (Maxima faster then Altima )

Thanks dmbmaxima88 for bringing my hopes back (emotional moment)

dmb, have you run against any SC Maximas yet? I know your '02 6spd is fast, but who well would it do against a SC Maxima? Maybe an auto SC Maxima and you would be a good match. With my setup, I'm confident that I should be in the 13s, although I haven't run at the track yet. Doesn't Delio or Confused live by near you? Maybe you should challenge them and see how you'll do.

How did the modded NOS Maximas run on Sunday? I assume since they are faster than a SC they would be in the 13's?? Let us know the times of the NOS Maximas that day including bolt on mods, and size of shot vs a STOCK 6spd not even broken in Max of 14.3. If they aren't running well into the 13's I'm sorry it really isn't worth having rice juice IMO.

S4

2000 S4 6 speed manual has the 1/4 time as 15.1 @ 107
http://www.fast-autos.net/s4info.html

2001 S4 Avant 6 speed manual:
S4's zero-to-60 sprint of 5.9 seconds while the quarter-mile passed in under 14.5 seconds. That's Boxster S territory, folks, and in the S4 Avant, you still get 31.3 cubic feet of cargo space before folding down the 60/40 split rear seats (which brings the total to 63.7 cubic feet). Our vehicle was outfitted with the six-speed manual transmission, but Audi claims that even Tiptronic models with the five-speed automatic (a no-cost option) can get to 60 mph in just 6.5 seconds.
http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/roadt...1/article.html

i actually thought about a used S4 instead of the 6 speed maxima but this thread just makes me happier with my decision.

If I was ever going to install some rice juice it would probably be a small shot so I don't have to do all sorts of crazy upgrades. Is a 50shot worth it on a 2k1 5spd with BPU?

PS. Based on Steve's track data what was his estimated 0-60 times?

I always liked the S4, but it was always underpowered as well.

It's saving grace for the car mags is the fast 0-60 times due to the AWD system and being able to dump the clutch and get a good launch.
But in terms of acceleration, it ain't so hot. After that beautiful launch, the deficits of only 250 HP and 258 T starts to show itself on a 3600 pound car with the added friction and drag of the AWD system.

The 2K2 Maxima has a few more ponies, a few less T, but weighs nearly 400 pounds less!

As for handling, the S4 rocks. No question.

Nice runs, but the trap times are a bit slow, some stock 2k1's 5spd's can get a 94mph trap speed.
