Coilover spring rates - 7/5s to soft?

Coilover spring rates - 7/5s to soft?

Hey guys,

Im looking to get new coilovers soon. Ive had 9/7s on my D2s for years now and Im looking to get a softer spring rate. Are 7/5s going to be to soft? Part of my reasoning is since it is my DD I really dont need such an aggressive spring rate and Im getting a little tired of the ride. Thanks,

I think I would go with a 7/6 setup but I don't know if the car is totally going to be an "a to b" car now or what. 5 in the rear is going to illicit more squat and dive than I would be happy with on coils, but then again after running many different setups I landed on a 380lbs/in front, 500lbs/inch. rear setup for my needs. It's surprising how much rear springrate affects these cars.

What's keeping you away from a spring/strut setup? Ride height?

500 lbs/inch rear springs ??? Trying to reduce understeer I take it ?

I'm running 400 F / 375 R (7.1 F / 6.7 R) and I think thats to much in the rear, then again your in Atlanta so I am guessing the roads are much better. Pot holes in the Northeast can consume Miatas.

I think 7/5 is fine for a daily driven car in the Northeast. Actually I'm going to run 5 K spings in the rear next season.

To dial out understeer I run alot of static negative camber and increase the caster angle. Also 7/5 makes a 58/42 split which is where I expect the weight balance to be after I change a few more things.

Yessir, ride height. Ive had several spring/strut setups in the past and seem to run into the same problem. Since I have a manual transmission the car always looks lower in the rear as opposed to heavier automatics which seem to solve that problem by weighing the front down. I dont drive slammed by any means but I like that idea of full suspension travel while being dropped that much.

Funny you should mention 7/6. My roommate said the same thing. I see what youre saying about the a to b car thing also... so much to think about..

I was thinking if I did get 7/5s I would add a decent preload and probably keep the dampening at full stiffness in the rears. I actually do that anyways with my 9/7s

well it went with 7/6s... I never knew coilovers could ride so well. Ive had 5 different suspension setups. this one is by farrr the best all around.

D2s again. The quality is much better than my first set. D2 has stepped it up.
