Electrical Gremlins

Having issues...

My wife noticed that the 98 Maxima parked in the driveway had it's lights on.. when she unlocked the car, the light switch was in the off position!!!

The car started normally and when the car was turned off, the lights also turned off.

Hard to believe .. but last night the battery was drained.. when I checked all the lights, nothing was left in the on position.

Now when I switch my lights on.. the illumination lights for the speedo and controls turn off. The tail lights also turn off.. the head lights remain on.

What the heck is going on... do I have a combo switch issue? Fuse ? or grounding issue?

Please help

Were the high beams or low beams on? If low beams than it's probably a stalk/switch issue. The lowbeam circuit is simple (battery, to fuse, to switch and to lamp). Not too much there to cause them to stay on.

If high beams than maybe the theft relay caused them to stay on because the theft system is wired to turn on the high beams. Although this seems unlikely.

Tail and dash lights are also controlled by the stalk/switch so most likely cause of your problems.

It was when the low beam are engaged. The interesting thing is that in the park light only setting the interior lights operate normally
