VSS connector?

Is the VSS unit on the top/rearward (drivers-side) of transmission (5speed) and connected to electrical harness with a spade connector wire?? I am going to try replacement to solve check engine: "VSS error" before messing with speedo head. Apologies for earlier post ( my error:VSS not "VSC"), I just wanted to make sure I was looking at the right part/location.
Thank you! Doug

Just FYI VSS signal goes to speedometer first and is then passed to the ECU. If your speedometer is working normally the VSS is OK. A problem in the cluster can cause a VSS CEL.

The engine light is on and diagnoses as VSS and cruise control doesnot engage/initiate from steering wheel but it sounds like the dreaded "speedometer head" issue that I have read so much about (common issue on older Maxis??).
Is there any significance (ECU issue?)to the fact that I just had intake cleaning done?? I checked all hoses and connections to see if something got disconnected.... Car runs great but that *&#! light keeps coming back after 2nd start. I miss my Cruise Control!!
Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thanks, Doug
