One of my O2 sensors is out and needs to be replaced, and I got quoted about $300 for them to buy the part and install it. Is this a fair deal or should i look around more?

 

hell yea the sensor is about 80 bucks and u could get it installed for probley 50 bucks

Although the above are sortof right, if you are getting a Nissan part and it's done by a reputable dealer/mechanic it's not a realll bad price. Nissan O2's about $175 (here in Canada - less in US) and may take an hour if rusted in. You can get aftermarket o2 on eBay or oxygensensor.com for around $50-75 and do it yourself or maybe with a buddy's help. Not a hi-tech job, just awkward, esp if it's rusted in place. Lots of write-ups on these, I just did one of mine last month, after SEARCHING.

 

I spent over $1000 to replace all the sensors and that didn't even fix the problem about a year ago. They might have done some other things like change the oil but I'm still sore.

 

damn ! you really got raped with out vaseline !! why do people pay to do work on there cars if all you need is here ! learn , break it that way next time you know what not to do ! and than you will know how to do it and you get to laugh at others when they ask this questions ! :-)

 

That is about average give or take, as long as they are using Dealer parts (I would only us OEM sensor). A O2 sensor is 145.00 at Courtesynissanparts , you might be able to find it cheaper (give Dave Burnett a call), the average shop in NY will charge you about 80-90 dollars a hour for the job. Hopefully its not rusted on.

 

Is that a price from a nissan dealer. If so then thats about right. A regular/good mechanic should charge 200-250 bucks. Depending on how much the sensor is. Negotiate the price. Thats what i do whenever i see a mechanic hehe...

My oe Nissan-branded sensors were made by Bosch (whose name was also on the sensors). You're paying a lot of extra money just for the hamburger logo on the sensor. Rock Auto sells it (upstream) for less than $47.

 

Well, if I lived in New York id definetly go to where was suggested, but I live in the Seattle area. Seattlites know any good places that'll do it cheap??? And no it's not the nissan dealership doing it, it's another mechanic who has done work on my car before he does a legit job. Just he is DAMN expensive!
