NE Snow - Wiper Blades Stink?!

Hey guys,

Anyone else have a tough time driving through the snow today? More so than usual, of course. My wiper blades froze up about 4-5 times making me pull over, but the worst part was that the blades wouldn't make full contact with the windshield.

I saw one other max on the road having the same exact issue.

Yep, the OEM wipers BLOW in the snow. I have to clean them way too many times. Anyone know if the ICONs are better handling the snow?

Go with RainX Latitudes. ABSOLUTELY FRIGGIN LOVE THEM. They're more pricey than most other blades, but they worked like a champ today in the NE snow disaster on my Armada. What's nice about them is that even in warmer/wetter weather, they hug the windshield even at over 90mph

Do they make the RainX for the 09/10 Maxima?

Let me get this straight, you are driving over 90 mph in the rain?

Bosch ICONS FTW. ive been using nothing but for the past 5 years, they kick a$s in the snow. i would imagine rainX latitudes are just as good, but theyre essentially the same product.

Looks like they do. I may just have to go to Pepboys tomorrow morning and pick up some Bosch Icons. I mean, these stock wipers are really terrible... maybe if we make enough noise, Nissan will recall them

Yes, the 7th gen Maxima driver's side blade is 28 inches. Other than Maxima and Altima, I'm not aware of any sedans or coupes that use over a 26 inch blade. A few vans (such as Quest, Town and Country, Voyager, etc) and SUVs use the 28 inch blade, but most vehicles use blades between 16 inches and 26 inches in length, so some dealers might temporarily be out of 28 inch blades.

Sorry. From the hip question (post #4). I have only 4k miles on my car and have no need for blades yet. They are weird looking blades on a newly designed car, so I thought they might be hard to get or only from the dealer. Good to know they are out there when I need them. I'v used RainX on my other cars for a long time now. A very good blade and the only one I have found that works well with RainX product on the windshield.

I have a biatch of a time as well!! I had more luck with the defrost melting the snow off the windshield as I drove, then using the wipers.

+1....Rain X Lattitudes are amazing! Helped me get home a few hours ago here in NYC. Visibility was amazing because of them.

This is very interesting.... In the other thread about the 09-10 wipers the Bosch ICONs seemed to be the favorite over the Latitudes. Now in this discussion the Latitudes are on top.... I suppose anything is better than the stock pieces of crap

Well, maybe all the ICON folks just haven't spoken up yet. I haven't tried the Latitudes and I don't need to - ICONs rock.

Yes, I agree these Stockeez (WIPER BLades) suck but they're not that bad if you use a good coat of Rain-X before using them.

I will buy the Latitudes though before my next trip, it seems that everyone recommends them.

Just out of curiosity, to the OP and everyone else that thinks the wiper blades such in the snow, did you use the front defrosters, just having the heat on does not do anything you need to keep the windsheild warm to keep the wipers from freezing.

Yes, I had the front defrosters on at full blast and they froze up. 23 inches of snow and blizzard conditions might do that to you.

FWIW, I have used both the Icons and Valeo Ultimates - and I will never buy the Icons again. Valeos are MUCH superior, and Amazon had them for $15 off - not sure if that's still good or not.

I have not tried the Latitudes.

Just checked - Amazon's instant rebate is good until 12-31.

I have the icons on my car and they worked alot better than the stock blades!! Latitudes are basically the same design, so they should work similar.

Check out the other threads on here. The Icons are the hands down winner from a high majority of posters. I put some on my Maxima and never looked back! They beat the RainX wipers hands down.

No problem with wipers in MN

We have had a couple good weeks with lots of snow. My OEM wipers seem to be working just fine. However, the other day I drove 10 miles, mostly highway, at 20 deg F and defrost failed to clear more than about the first 8 inches of the window. Thankfully the rest was little globs of ice with clear spaces inbetween so I could safely see through. Defrost doesn't work to well at highway speeds in most vehicles, but for it being only 20 deg F, this was an unimpressive result.

Thumbs up No need for winter wipers - go all-season wipers

I also use the newer-style, frameless "all season" wiper blades. Nothing's perfect in the Wisconsin snow and ice but these definitely out-perform the old-school framed wipers and the OEM wipers. I use 'Trico NeoForm Beam Blades' (28" & 17"). They are super quiet and wipe clean. Love them - AWESOME!! Got them online.

my blades were good during the winter... spray some hot water on them and the ice goes away.... spring time very close by.
