squeaky blower motor

Besides replacement, what do you guys suggest? any tricks to quiet it down? although I believe when this noise is an indication of maybe shaft running dry on the busings?...

thanks for the advice before I started tinkering with it. My idea was to somehow grease it, not oil it though. (somehow that is...)

Mine did the same thing, and it actually wore down to the point to where it started burning up the motor. There really isn't much you can do to fix it...I tried. When I pulled it apart and hit it with the air compressor, all kinds of black soot blew out.

You'll probably just have to buy another one. They're relatively cheap if you look around for a used one. I paid $30 or so for mine.

its a common issue with our maximas and only appears when its cold outside. If you can live with the noise then i suggest you do that. The noise goes away when the weather starts to get better...

Actually, I've had the noise for a while, probably since Late August but yeah now that it's freezing out, it's gotten louder.

I just don't wanna get caught out there in the middle of dead winter with a burned up motor, so I'll have to buy one soon.

thanks all for the advices

I know it might sound crazy but I have had alot of luck spraying the inside of the blower motor through the air vent hole with brake parts cleaner then let it dry.It does work.

Get this one. It's the same thing...

...I installed this year in my 2002 Max 2 years ago and still works fine.

$36.50 shipped!!! Oil and sprays will not work, only cover up issue.

Well as the guys have said, you don't want to blow out the resistor, if your climate control unit is the digital type then that resistor is 151.00 from the dealership and if it is the manual slides then the resistor is 51.00 bucks from the dealership.

Mine's been making this noise in cold weather for over a year now. I just turn the fan down from 3 to 2 when it gets annoying enough.

It never hurts to unbolt it and check for any debris that may be causing your increase noise, alot of crap can get down in there.

Mine only does it during the winter. It needs to be replaced, I'm just too lazy to find/buy a new one.

You think that just cleaning it and lubing it with lithium grease would work (mine's noisy at level 1 speed)? It works, why should I buy a new one haha

Clean it yes indeed, but I would not go as far as to introduce any grease or lube of any kind.

Some times the increase in noise is nothing more than just a collection of debris .ie mapleleaf keys - dried up leave particles or other foreign matter.

Well I finally pulled mine out tonight to see if anything was flying around inside the blower. I did find two very small leaves in there but I'd be surprised if they had anything to do with the noise. My guess is the bearings are going on the motor itself. It had a lot of bronze colored dust inside the motor chamber.

Now I'm wondering if I should just replace it now before it goes. I've heard that a dying fan can sometimes kill the resistor. Is this true? If so I'd rather just buy a new fan now rather than spend more money later on. I also don't care for the idea of driving across town on a 0F night with no heat!
