USA Spec Ipod in 2003 5.5 Gen w/ 6CD

I've been running the Harman Kardon Drive and Play system for a while, and its really crapped out. Its buggy, fails in the cold weather, and now has stopped working completely. The audio quality is also not great on it I've found.

My main question is, is there anyway to get the PA15-NIS on my current setup? I have the Bose Factory System without Navigation and it has the 6CD in dash system. Crutchfield customer support told me its possible, but Im not convinced, other resources have said that it does not work in this setup. I don't care about retaining the use of the CD changer as it sucks and doesnt work in the cold anyhow.

Thanks

I've heard that it doesn't work with Bose systems that have the integrated in-dash 6 disc cd changer, which is any Bose system on 02'+ Max's.

See I've heard that too, but will it flat out not work? Or will I just have to remove the CD changers plug from the head unit and replace it with the Ipod connector? Cause like I said I dont care if I have use of the CD changer, I never use it anyhow.

Anyone know?

I believe there is a kit at best buy that allows you to do this. Its not a FM modulated system either but it does use the antenna as the input source. when i pick up my Ipod im going with this system as well.

USA Spec unit will NOT work with 02-03 w/ in-dash 6cd changer. It is lacking the external CD-changer port on the back of the unit that the 00-01 has. I've heard some rumors that you could swap to the 00-01 unit in your 02-03 but not sure if it's worth the hassle. Don't quote me on that though.

That really sucks, hundreds of car configurations and I have the one model that wont work, better yet had I known back then how bad the Bose changer would have been I wouldnt have gotten it!

Now i need a solution for the system, I imagine its buying a new drive and play off ebay or something.

Yah to me, it's more worth it to just flat-out get a new deck. The money you spend researching and testing out new solutions to play aux/ipod through a stock bose deck could be better off spent with replacing it with a new system. Most likely your stock cd-player will start skipping, your tape deck will become obsolete, and you'll get tired of the radio stations.

I heard a rumor that the stock headunit being replaced requires that the whole amp and sub be replaced as well cause the system is not compatible with other headunits...any truth to that? Cause I would gladly go get a new headunit, wonder how close I can get one in size.

Anyone ever used a Pioneer FH-8000BT double din head unit? Looks like a perfect fit to replace the stock unit, tons of features and really reasonable, like 299.99. If this is compatible with the stock amp, sub and speakers im gonna buy this!

I replaced my pos stock unit with an aftermarket Pioneer Avic gps unit no problems at all. The sound is better now than stock ever was too. They sell adapters that work with the Bose system. Simple plug and play stuff. Check out installer.com for all the adapters you'll need. I got my dash kit from Amazon though. Ebay is a great source too.

I almost went with that one. It'll work fine in the Max. At the time I was buying though the Avic F700BT was going for $365.00. I couldn't pass it up.

The Pioneer website says itll work, but all of the "best fit" things online say it won't. IE. Bestbuy, Crutchfield etc. I'm concerned that if I buy and it doesnt fit, I have a big headache, but I'm wondering why it wouldnt fit in the first place.

Also, wanna ensure this HU can be swapped in with no other modification required like amp work or anything like that? I basically just want to swap one for one, I need to know what I need....not the best car audio guy!

3rd thing I need or just a repost? I ordered the two items, but the stupid Adapter harness is on backorder from crutchfield Canada, its available on the US site, so I imagine that it should be taking all too long. Gonna get on the HU ordering soon.

I got mine because I wanted to keep the stock look. It's all user preference, really.

What I meant to post was a Nissan antenna adapter.

So took the stereo down to bestbuy yesterday a Pioneer FH-8000BT. Bestbuy had trouble getting power, I'm thinking its the harness that was defective as lots of them have problems. Can anyone shed some insight, is this thing gonna go back to bestbuy and not work again? I really dont know much about the car stereo install process, but I hope this thing works eventually. They're gonna try a new harness that they have on tuesday when it goes back in, but if anyone knows if this is pointless let me know!
