don't need to remove the "filter", trust this! clean it with brake cleaner spray. i went thru the aggravation of cutting a groove in the end of the bolt so i could hold the bolt with a screwdriver while turning the nut. after all of the energy spent...duh, i realized i could have just cleaned the original as is not a true filter with mesh but just a "screen" that can be cleaned & reused. save your energy!

On my '99 I got the nut off but couldn't get it back on and I wasn't about to remove 13 bolts to drop the VB and worry about springs flying out and ***** dropping because I was tired. The bolt is captive so you don't have to worry about it going anywhere, from what I've read.

IIRC, I pulled down on the bolt to create some friction between the nut and the VB) while I was turning it, and that was enough to let me get it unscrewed.
