Black 96 gxe parts car/part out $700--Mid Tennesee
Hey everyone thanks for all the interest. Pmohr came down and picked it up yesterday. He's been helping me out troubleshooting etc on the org for 4 or 5 yrs so he knows this thing inside and out. Best of luck with it, and let me know if you have any trouble.
I do still have the BBS wheels, so they are still for sale.
Hey org!
(scroll down for pictures)
Due to this nasty winter weather, I finally crunched up my beloved to the point that I think it's not worth repairing. I'll start off by saying that I would much prefer to sell this whole to someone in the nashville area as opposed to parting it out, only because of the time and stress of pulling and selling parts individually doesn't strike me as really fun. But if some dibs come up for major parts (engine, tranny, bodywork, wheels, etc) and/or if enough interest is generated so that it looks like I can do OK money-wise without spending hundreds of hours on it I may switch over to a part out. If that becomes the case I will edit this post to reflect the change. I'm sure there's $2000 dollars worth of parts here, I hope to find a fellow enthusiast who can turn a good profit on this machine.
I have done all repair/maintenance work on this car for the past 150,000 miles and 8 years. This machine has been loved dearly and will absolutely be missed, so please don't think that this is some kind of rust bucket.
It is tagged, insured and driveable with a clean title. I don't have any recent pictures, but as soon as I take some I'll put a link to them up here. Or PM me and I can email them. I'm located in Columbia TN (38401), about 45 minutes south of Nashville, but I go to Nashville at least weekly so I could easily drive it out to show any prospective buyer.
It is a 1996 maxima gxe with a 5 speed and 15" alloy sawblades. I also have a set of custom machined 15" (like 10 pounds apiece--LIGHT) BBS wheels off a 2nd gen RX7 spider that I will throw in with the sale, but that can be a negotiating point. I think the only factory option it had was a trunklid spoiler. In the last year or so I have probably put over a grand into parts on it, so I figure a little detail on some of the new parts is appropriate. I'll list off the major components with some detail, so you can decide if it is worth buying for parts:
ENGINE:
It has about 300,000 miles, but runs and drives good with the exception of a mild miss I have been chasing around for some time, and a VERY slight leak at the front main seal. I mean it loses about a cup of oil every 3000 miles. As far as I can tell it burns no oil, and there aren't any signs of failing rings or bearings internally. All coils work perfectly (replaced one around thanksgiving, no trouble out of it since). I actually have 2 ECUs sitting in the car, the original and one from a 97 auto that I got for a song trying to diagnose the aforementioned miss. The starter is about a year old and I believe it has a lifetime warranty. AC/heat/radiator all work perfectly, the radiator had a hairline crack that I patched with JB weld several months ago that hasn't leaked a drop since. It has the full stock airbox with a K&N drop in and the MAF is less than 3 years old. The EGR valve does not work, but it would be easy to clean out if you were swapping the engine into another car. Also water pump is about 2 years old. Oh yeah, and the exhaust fell victim to the weather as well so its scrap metal.
TRANSMISSION:
Five speed manual, again a lot of miles but functions very well. Only thing I can fault it with is the syncros are getting a little worn so 1-2 and 2-1 shifts aren't real smooth. But still WAY better than my brother's newer VW so its not bad. The clutch is an autozone buy with about 50k on it, no slips or anything like that. The pass side driveshaft is less than 2 months old from advance auto parts. Drivers side boots are good and and joints are quiet, but I also have a tight used spare halfshaft in the trunk.
BODY:
Not really the strong point of this car. The doors and interior are in good to excellent condition, the trunk lid is perfect with some faded paint on the spoiler. I have a white hood in fair condition sitting on it, a pass side fender and 97-up bumper both in primer which I have not installed. Drivers side fender is bent as well. I have a pair of 97-up plastic lens headlights sitting in a box as well (I hit a deer and was going to upgrade to the 97-up front end until I crashed it again last night, so I also have some cool looking black-painted mesh bumper inserts etc that will go with the car).
Interior is black on gray cloth, with no tears or bad stains, but everything could use a good vacuuming. It has a Kenwood cd player with the accelerometer (the older version), but I can sell this separately but we can negotiate as to whether this will be included. All glass except windshield is perfect, and all window motors work.
It also has a set of KYB AGX adjustable shocks, but they have close to 70k on them so they are only about as strong as the stock ones now.
Whew sorry for the long post, I just want to get as good information here for everyone to see as I can. I'm asking $700, but I am certainly open to local cash/carry offers, so tell me what it is worth to you and we can talk.
I have been a member of the org for almost 7 years and have done about a dozen dozen sell/buy deals, and I think anyone I have dealt with over that time will tell you I'm as straight up as anyone can be.
If you have any questions please reply or PM me and I'll be sure to respond within 24 hours. And I'll be happy to send my phone number via PM if requested.

Here are a few things I can sell without hurting it much as a parts car:
97 auto ECU, running the car right now works fine, intact seal from rebuilder:
$65 shipped
BBS wheels from and FC RX7 spider, custom milled to fit the 4th gen hubs. Here's a link to the pictures the guy I bought them from took : http://s295.photobucket.com/albums/m...yandjesse/bbs/ I know I cleaned them up one day and took a few pics but I can't find them at the moment. They really look pretty bad in these pictures since they were real dirty, but they clean up and look real sharp as long as you're standing back a little. I can also tell you they are very light; when I had them machined to fit the hub I had a shop pull the tires off and I carried 2 in each hand no problem, they're about 10 pounds each, vs 20 or 25 for the sawblades. A lot less unsprung weight, and IIRC a pound off your wheels is equivalent to 4 off the chassis for acceleration.
Asking $200, prefer not to ship since they have tires on them and would be really hard to box up. But I'm in southern middle TN, so may be able to deliver a couple hundred miles for gas.
And if anyone is interested in the stereo, here's a link for you http://www.crutchfield.com/S-CwhtH2d...=detailed_info. It's good sounding, and has aux inputs for an Ipod (in the back, but I just routed the wires through the little cubby in the console), and has this accelerometer built in to measure HP and g-forces, I don't have a lot of faith in the numbers it produces but might be a convenient way to make comparisons for new mods. It's still a kenwood, so nobody can figure out how to turn it off, but if you can put up with some of the quirks you'll like this stereo. It works just fine and sounds perfect.
Asking $75 cash/carry, or 90 shipped.

As I said in the OP, I'm only considering a part out if I have no luck selling it whole. I'm thinking if I can't sell it whole for a good price then I will start parting out.
But if I sell it I will let the buyer know that you (and everyone else requesting specific parts) are interested so whoever buys it can get in touch with you.

Looks like the link I had posted didn't work so here are the pictures of the BBS's, taken a few years ago. I only drove maybe a thousand miles on them, and they look a lot better now that I cleaned them up.

I'm only selling a few individual parts, they are all listed on this thread: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ferrerid=20447
So far I've listed a spare 97 ECU, the 15" BBS wheels, and the stereo. I'm looking up prices now for the airbags which I will probably add in the next day or two. Sorry but I'm only selling a few of the easy parts off the car so its still driveable. And of course any of the high dollar items, just to reduce the price of the whole car, so it will sell a little faster.
But expect a PM from me when I sell the car, I'll make sure the buyer knows you want it and give him your contact info.

PENDING....
Afterlife is coming down from Knoxville this weekend to pick it up. I'll forward the PM's I've gotten so far requesting parts to him as soon as the sale is complete. So please direct parts requests either to him or this thread where he can find them.
No sawblades, but I do have the BBS's pictured above still for sale. They're the same size as the sawblades but a lot lighter and a lot better looking IMO. I used them for a few months and they work fine, they're straight etc. If you're in the Nashville area and want to pick them up I'll take 200 for them, but if you'll come out and see them I could come down some.
