Could be one of two things. The window regulator could have failed, the cable may be broken. The rubber bushing inside the motor may be broken. The best bet is take the door panel off and look at the regulator, if the cable is intact I bet it's the motor. The gear that drives the regulator is connected to the motor with a rubber bushing, When that bushing fails the motor runs but the window does not move.
Your other option is to buy a window regulator and motor together and just replace both.

any best way to replace the window regulator assembly? i know there is a lot of metal showing when you take off the door panel, limiting access to the regulator. is all it is just reaching in the hole and working with limited space?
Yeah its not too bad, the tight door looks intimidating at first but its not that bad. Remember which holes you took bolts out of, how things were lined up, dont pull put any door handle or door lock rods on accident and you should be fine. O and dont let the glass fall once its all disconnected...I usually tape the glass in the up position.
