after i got my clutch replaced last week, the car has been kinda hard to start most of the time. sometimes it would start just fine but recently it wouldnt start at all. it is getting fuel as i can smell it coming out of the exhaust. plugs are NGK Irridums, might have 10k on them. also used the starter fluid and nothing. i was able to get a video of what its doing.

 

Get the starter tested

 

thats my first plan to do tomorrow then check the grounds. after that i dont know

 

Hi, just throwing my 2 cents after 2 days getting my 97 SE auto running. It would crank and run great, then next time rattle and make horrendousnoises and no start. Tried a nedw battery and same thing. Found the starter would intermittanly drag huge and be too much for the battery to start.

Got a new starter with 2 year warranty, charged up the battery, new fuel filter (can't recall last change) cleaned really dirty K&N air filter, and turned the key. Started immediately. Drove for awhile till warm and then hammered it. Like a new car!!!

sounds like your starter is trying to turn, hence the engine noise, battery sounds good too. why not take it back to the shop to make sure there isnt any loose wiring anywhere. doesnt seem to be a battery or starter issue (engine is turning)

 

yeah its getting fuel. hopefully its only the starter

didnt have a shop do it. could this be because the matting surface between the block and tranny werent sanded down? i heard a guy with a 5th gen did the same thing and it fixed the problem

 

yea sounds like the starter!

 

I can be wrong, but i just dont think its the starter. To me it sounds like its doing its job and something else isnt....in order for the car to fire up.

 

run a ground wire from negative on battery to the bolt on the starter that holds it to the transmission sounds like after u did your clutch its not grounding right on my transmission i had a lil rinkydink ground from the frame to tranny replaced and all is well

 

just got back from O'Riley's and got the batter tested and it passed. cleaned the cam position sensor and sanded down the grounds for the starter and still nothing

 

have you checked ects? they have been known to cause hard starts and stalling as a matter of fact i started my car today and it took several tries and and pumping the gas to get her started i popped the hood and the connector was lose i pushed it all the way down on the sensor plugged it all the way in an it started right up

 

id check and run an extra ground as stated above. im not a believer of the whole mating surfaces deal, especially since it was a clutch job, not like you swapped a tranny from a junkyard with rust.

 

add a ground from the neg battery terminal to the transmission housing

 

More then likely is the starter!!!

 

starter passed the test too. i do have a warranty on it but it would have to fail in order for me to get another one

 

yo man...sometimes when ppl replace the clutch, they forget to sand the mating surfaces and it makes a bad ground. Add an extra ground to the transmission housing. PM Smai, he will tell u. If that dont work then that CKPS POS might need to be inspected for fouling, cleaned and/or replaced.

You said the clutch was recently replaced? Check and properly adjust the pedal freeplay make sure the clutch is fully disengaging when you go to try and start it

 

Is your clutch peddal stif or spongy...iam asking cuz when I got my clutch changed on my 95 max it did the same thing...turned out it was my slave cylinder... I replaced that then my peaddal got a little stiffer witch help it kick over...after a couple of weaks I had to replace the master pump cylinder witch is near the brake cylinder...but it was worth it... it ran like a dream after that...

 

didnt mess with the adjustment at all. it started fine for the first day or so and then it just got worse and worse from there.

 

feels normal. i can bump start it and it will drive fine. problem is just getting it to start

 

Well it cant hurt to check it just grab a ruler, maybe the person who did your clutch didn't adjust it right. Also, some clutches need adjustment after the first 1500 miles

 

good news

i got the car started. it was the ground. i went to advance and got a negative battery ground and grounded it to the tranny and it started right up

hey i have the same problem i jsut got my clutch done and now my car is doing the same thing were did u run the ground from the tranny to the negative from the battery?

 

this should seriously be stickied. i seen numerous threads about this. ima shoot a admin about this.

Jus run a wire from the negative battery terminal to a transmission housing bolt. Any bolt will do.

 

make sure the sand where the wire is going to make contact a wire brush will do

i just finish puting in a light weight flywheel and new clutch,and now da car is thombleing but won't start,i tried da ground thing still nada,can i have some input {plz} bfor i take every thing back down .

 

there is a sensor that bolts to the tranny check that to make sure it not dirty and conected that will cuz a no start
