How did you mount the front lip on your 4th gen? I know i obviously have to mount 2 screws, one on each side. Did you guys drill holes in the middle? I know i am suppose to use double sided tape as well but im worried about the long term effect of the double sided tape when i remove the lip a few years down the road. What is the best way of doing this? Thanks.

 

Ask Delio , he pretty much put my whole body kit on... i cleaned the sides before he did though

screws go on the sides of the lip, by the wheel well

 

I had 3M automotive tape holding it on, as well as a screw in each wheel well and one in the center of the lip from under the car.

Are all of you guys putting it on now? Don't you guys want to wait until the winter is over.

 

With the warm weather so far in NJ, im not really worried about it. Also, in winter, i dont really drive my car. I either drive my 92 or bring out the Montero for snow driving.

Paul at Avalon mentioend i might want to use rivets. The only prob is, i dont wnat holes everywhere when i remove my front lip. I also dont want double sided tape stuck to the paint.

 

What ever tape you use, make sure its 3M.

 

You can't just say '4th gen', you have to state wether it's a 95/96 or a 97/99. BIG difference...

 

Oh my bad, i mean 97-99. I figure they are all front lips and have to go on similar? True? No?

 

Anyone heard of body glue?? Anyone use that?

use 3m body molding tape. Its like $8 for a small roll of it, can be found at any PepBoys. Use that all the way around the lip along with screws on the inside of the fender where the lip wraps around. For more security buy some quick 60sec adhesive(blue/white tubes that you combine to make a paste) and use that under the lip near the fog openings and in the middle.

Screws in those areas look nasty IMHO.

 

i used the 3m tape AND rivetted it to both sides in the front. what happened? the ****er fell off when i was driving back from nyc for thanksgiving on the 86 in jersey and i ran over it, and the guy behind me ran over it! imo, dont just secure it on the sides, put a rivet or screw it in the front of the lip as earlier suggested. come spring, when i get a new front lip, i'm getting it molded onto the car.

 

Yea, i thinnk i will use some screws in the middle. I might just have the body shop do it. Like i said, i dont want multiple holes on my bumper. How did ytou guys drill the holes right under above the stock lip? There isnt much room for a drill to fit.

 

after steves lip flew off at highway speed.. i put 2 screws in the center of the lip and put touchup paint over them so you cant see them.

 

Screws on each end of the lip- by the wheel well like Neelio said. Use 2 rivets up toward the middle for added security. Hardly noticable. I had a black car so I didn't bother using touch up since the rivets are black, but you might want to use a lil touch up on it. Don't worry bout the holesize of those rivets. It's only 1/4 size compared to the hole u drilled in my firewall

 

Synki, I just used scotch tape and its holding the lip on just fine

and i would bolt the sucker in remember those nasty driveways where the kit can get ripped off... i shudder for those

 

one screw in each fender well...then the double sided tape that comes with it and I have 5 rivets in it across the front...the way I see it you need to secure as much as possible...you cannot worry about screws being seen just put touch up paint on it better to be secure safe than sorry...and have it come off down the raod....secure it!!!!!

 

It doubles as a snow plow .

 

Then it actually serves a purpose and i can make my $$$ back.

Oh man, are you kidding me Synki? If you have a '97/'99, I don't even want to hear you complaining about putting it on! You guys have it made. I fought keeping my '96 front lip on for years WITHOUT a seam. Never did get it completely seamless. Just one of the several reasons I did a '97/'99 front end conversion. Stillen outdid themselves when they designed the '97/'99 front spoiler. The way it goes up and sits inside the lower airdam is priceless. No more fighting gravity and no more seams!

But to answer your original question, although I haven't installed my '97 front yet, I would place the two outer screws in the wheel wells, use the double stick tape or silicone glue in the airdman and put a screw/sex bolt (or two) at the very back of the air dam.

Hehe, its all good. I got to mount it about 2 days ago. I used the supplied screws to scrwe it in on both ends and used 2 of teh supplied rivets in the middle of the airdam. This was a apin trying to get a drill in there. So what i did was drill from bottom up. I will be taking the lip off and having it painted soon.

I had mine molded to the front bumper. So it is just like one piece.

 

Are you serious? That is so sweet! I envy you. Do you have a '97/'99? I've thought about it many a time. But what about the part that overlaps the car and not the bumper cover? That's the only thing stopping me. Same with the rear.
