Rim Hub Repair - Please help!
Rim Hub Repair - Please help!
Hey guys, just bought some Racing Hart C3's from a member on here and I couldn't get the one center cap on the rim. Tried that same center cap on another rim and it was fine, so it's definitely the hub. There was a thread on the hub that was like expanded, kinda odd. I tried to grind it down a little but I still can't get the center cap on. None of the wheel shops around here have any suggestions other than to check out a pipe shop or a fab shop. I tried, and none of them have a tool that will work for this.
What other options do I have? A rethreader maybe?? I just have limited space to work in since the hub sits back in the rim it might be hard to get to. Thanks.

This would be a task for a machine shop - and yes the tool needed is thread cleaner (although a thread cutter would do this too) - however it would need an extension and the wheel would need to be held down in order to have the tool go in straight. (I've done this on some machinery parts before, I'd offer to do it for you but I'm in Florida, and don't have access to that shop anymore...)
Also, to do it yourself, the tool is expensive, and not worth a 'one time use purchase', maybe you could rent one, but I don't know if that would be available for rent in your area.
