Good way to check coilover life?

Just ordered some. I know 2 are blown from previous owner and I have replacements on the way. I'm new to coilovers so spare me. I'm assuming loosen the "bolt" under the spring itself to relieve the compression? That should allow me to then just push down on them and see how they recoil correct?

Thanks.

Well, that'll tell you something if they're gas charged, but there is a whole lot more involved in shock performance that just the gas pressure.
If two of the four are already trashed, I'd expect the other two aren't far behind.

The other two were already replaced not too long ago.
