All I know is that I may have to put my stock tail lights back in so I can smoke them to look like you, that looks so good man. Good job.

Great Job!

Hey, that looks sharp man. Nice work.

I liked the idea of tinting the rears, but I think some of the other pics of other ppl's tints looked like they went al little too thick with the tint. Yours is "just right."

I think if they're "totally blacked out" (can't see the lense color at all) like some others I've seen. . .

#1) It attracts the wrong kind of attention: read- "fuzzy"
#2) It 'must' obscure some of the lamplight, especially in bright sunny conditions (I don't car what anyone says about "it's as visible as it was before, etc.") Bunk.
#3) It looks a little cheesier, imho, like those tinted plexi-show-covers you see on camaros and firebirds, etc.

Anyway, way to go!

For those reading this, (maybe flattering myself, here), but if you think your tails fall in this "too dark" category and want to redo them, well, you already know how easy it is to wipe the stuff off w/ acetone, etc.

Tinting my tail is definitely on the "to-do" list!

l8r!

Btw, did you follow the tint w/ a clearcoat? -Just wondering if most people out there are sealing the tint in with a layer or two of clear. Thanks!

I don't know about the tint, but you can get clearcoat in a can at any hardware store:

Rust-oleum Crystal Clear Enamel (in an aerosol can) is one I've had luck with on other applications. I'm sure there are others available.

My reply post disappeared over the night

The paint is from www.autodynamic.com and is from Japan ($24). One can will easily do two sets of tallights to the tint like mine. I used two light coats of the paint. If you apply the paint inside (recommended), make sure you take the housing outside before applying another coat to make sure you're not getting it too dark. Indoor lighting is very misleading. The paint contains clear coat so there is no need to apply clear unless you really want to. That pic was taken two months ago and the paint has been on there for over 2 years. I've had absolutely no problems with the paint chipping off. I've had zero problems with the police simply because well over 95% of the stock lighting still comes thru. It also looks factory like the 3rd gen RX7TT and VR6 Jetta/Gold VWs. I can post a pic of the brake lights on in broad daylight for the doubters.

BTW, those are Intrax springs.

Dave, i see ont his website 2 diff smoke paint, one is removable and anothe rone is non removable. Which one you used?
So basically to use it, you have removed tail lenses and put them on ground, then sprayed all over them 2 times and thats it? how long they dry?

I used the regular stuff. They didn't have the removable paint 2 years ago. I don't know if I would use the removable paint simply because it might not adhere well.

To paint, pull out the housings (have fun with the black glue that gets everywhere). Do one coat and let dry for 10 minutes. Do another coat and let dray for an hour or two. See if it's dark enough for you. I've had friends who with 3 and 4 coats and it was just too dark. The lightly smoked look gives a factory look.

Do you take apart the housings and paint the inside of the lamp or do you just paint the outside?
