300zx engine swap

how hard would it be to swap the engine from a 300zx twin turbo to a 4th gen maxima. and also could your just switch the uim and exhaust manifolds form the 300 to get the twin turbo setup?

its Rear wheel drive and won't bolt in so its gonna be your job to figure it out. Unless your r skilled like in Overhaulin's WHOLE team (which i'm guessing your not) or wanna pay $$$$$$ its not likely gonna work out... why would you wanna try that anyway

u can do the swap and have it rear wheel drive BUT your unibody 4th gen wasnt made for body flex like that. u would have to cage it and pound the fire wall in and new motor mounts possible wheel well work fron and rear and u would have to get a diff with a custom length drive shaft blah blah blah...better off trying to do a 350Z swap

VG30 components are not interchangeable with VQ. The links I posted actually contain information

http://forums.maxima.org/2935777-post3.html

SPiG: "The VG and the VQ have no common internal parts. To my knowledge there is not a single part that will bolt up. The only thing that we can use is the injectors (only for 95-96 Zs) and the MAF if boosted. There are also some brake components but nothing as far as the engine. The 350Z has a lot more parts that we can use regarding the engine. The 89-94 maximas have the VE30DE and the VG30E so they have more parts in common with the Z31 and Z32.

like the other one."

The VG is an iron block and to my understanding the VQ30de is several hundred lbs lighter than the vg30de. You would probably come out cheaper, lighter and with less headache if you keep the vq30de and turbo it.

FWIW I've read a few people that spent the money and energy swapping either a vq30 or vq35 into a 300zx to drop weight.

I'm not sure. There's plenty of folks on here pulling over 400HP with a single turbo. I think the vg30dett (twin turbo) stock pulls like 300. I think you can find a lot more info on turbo projects in the turbo/super section.

Also, I looked into getting a vg30dett from a salvage yard and on the average they run like 5x the price of a vq30de. So you could probably turbo the vq for just a little more money (not including labor and fab work). You can pick up a vq for like $200-$300 and a VG is easily $1200 based on what I found. So overall the vq30de turbo would probably cost way less time and $$$$.

Plus timing chain FTW. VG has a timing belt and that scares the crap out of me.

nothing, you would single turbo it and get more power
is this really that hard to accept?
300zx=rwd maxima. end of story TT300zx=a basic turbo maxima. only 300hp

and please fix your sig its huge and its very hard to read threads you post in.

Even though the idea of a RWD maxima seems really fun.

A rear wheel drive max would be fun. Why re-invent the wheel when the Infiniti J30 is available, so is the older q45 series. Not to mention the 300zx twin turbo is a nightmare to fix. Explains why nissan, toyota, and mitsubishi quit making the the twin turbo setups.
