Nissan's new sport ute aka Mini Xterra. Looks pretty nice, wondering if they gonna bring to the states.

You'll notice that Nissan cranks out new SUV's all the time, but we have to wait forever for the new Z. I wish everybody would stop buying SUV's so that car companies could devote resources to cars I want to buy.

basically the X-trail I understand is a cross between the silvia (SR20DET equipped car - turbocharged 240sx for us here in the US) and the nissan x-terra (we have here in the US).

so its just a x-terra with a souped up engine!

X-Trail gets my juices flowing...

... even though I generally HATE SUVs. I'll give you a little background info on this X-Trail.

It's a RAV4-sized mini-ute, but if you can navigate the Japanese site (took me forever to find it) you will see that it has

SR20VET with 280ps at 6000-ish rpms

It's transverse mounted methinks, so that will go into a FWD vehicle (just like the AWD DETs go into FWD Sentras and G20s).

I can't believe Nissan would offer the SR20VET in that little piece of crap. Nothing personal, maybe just my taste, but that thing looks like a Honda CR-V. Suzuki Samuri, anybody?

Inside looks very nice, though.

If it comes to the US, I'd be surprised if they offered anything more gutsy than the 240SX KA24DE engine (~155 HP). They hate Americans!

The inside looks very functional. But as with most Nissans that cross over to the States, it's gonna get NDI's magic touch. It's not common to get a "pure" Nissan anymore, it's either an Infiniti or NDI's Americanized version.

A lot of cars will be using the VQ in the future. For an SUV, if it had to be a 4-banger, I'd prefer it to be the KA24DE than the SR20DE. SUVs are supposed to tow and haul soccer kids, not race :-)
