Basically my 07 was equipped with HID's from the factory except for the passenger side was installed with a non HID headlight due to an accident so the previous owner went cheap and replaced it with a non HID headlight.

So I went and got an HID kit for that side and it works like a charm but why is the newer one more blue?

Their both 8k bulbs.

Is it because the Non HID headlight housing doesn't have the HID projector ? You can clearly see right through the non HID projector as the other factory projector is foggy looking.

Or is it the aftermarket Ballast?

 

wait you have 2 different setups going? no way you could get the same colors then.

HID bulbs are not blue. It is simply the white light refracting off the cutoff. So if you have 2 different housings that is a strong possibly why they look different.

Also as a HID bulb ages, it's color shifts within a range of whites.

 

It is always recommended to change both sides at the same time.

 

Yea I say more blue only to explain the situation a bit easier and their both brand new 8k bulbs. I think your right it's gotta be the projector the newer one projects the light clearer but definitely different. The light looks scattered on my garage wall compared to the OEM side so I'm sure I'm blinding people.

oh we know the cutoff and projectors are different giving off a different pattern.

i understand what you're saying now. man if it was your driver side, i have an extra projector laying around when i replaced my headlight. try to find a passenger one.

 

i can tell you first hand that it is your projectors. Xenon projector and halogen projectors are different in size and the orientation of the bulb to the lens. I am saying this because over the summer i converted from halogen to xenon projectors on my 07 and the bulb sat quite far from the lens on the halogen setup. To sum this up, the original headlight was a xenon projector set-up(HID equipped) while the replaced unit is a halogen projector(non-HID).

 

I just bought A 2006 Maxima SE with the drivers prefered package on the car today they say it should have xenon lights on it whats the deference and how can I really tell if thats what I got on my car.

When you switch on your lights, hid bulbs ignite slow like a fluorescent bulb.

Same thing with my 07 max.. I noticed it a few months ago. Any idea why there different?

 

Damn that sucks, when I got the new ones I put one old and new and turned them on and it was a big difference!

 

Mainly because over time, as been pointed out, they decrease down the Kelvin range (Purple changes to blue, blue to white, white to yellow).

Perhaps saying "Stock Maxima lights are not blue" is accurate, but you can buy HID in just about any range, from 1000K to 12000K


Being new to the Maxima I had a question of these HID headlights, how do the highs work? Are they just shuttered or is there a second bulb for the highs?
