Smoked my tails
Smoked my tails
School's out and I have way too much free time, so I decided to smoke my tails. I think they look great! All it took was 3 coats of Rust-Oleum Lens Tint, and 2 coats of Rust-Oleum clear. Do you guys think I should red out my signals too? I'm on the fence about that. Thanks.

They turned out great!!!... Hopefully they'll last a long time.
Mine were all red and I did it about a year ago. I did not sand the areas to be painted to rough them up, for the paint to make a better bond with the lenses, and had to re-do the whole thing about 2 weeks ago because of paint peeling all over the place. This time I sanded the surfaces and used a glossy black spray paint formulated for plastic surfaces, followed by a few coats of clear coat. The paint almost matches the car. So far, I'm happy with the results.

I really like that idea...they came out great! I have a sterling mist also and I think this compliments the lighter color cars better than just tinting the entire tail. Although, I would probably do a light coat over the red and orange also.
I could be the type of paint I used. Perhaps the Rust-Oleum has better adhesion power and you won't have that problem. I got mine from a hobby shop (forgot the name of it); it wasn't the VHT Nite-Shades, but something else (I think it was Testor or something).

I tinted my lights last week, but I did the whole light, except for the reflector, to try and stay somewhat legal. I also tinted the sidemarkers to match. I love my look. I used 2 coats of VHT niteshades, I love the darkness that came out of it. I just wish I would not have sanded mine before, I don't think I needed too.

Looks great guys! Never seen anyone do all but the reflectors - that looks awesome like that. I tinted mine with the laminated tint sheet/spray bottle/hair dryer technique. Turned out OK, but it could be even more original if I taped off a reflector or something to customize it.
(Thinking about tinting my fogs, too - might even go with a dark yellow?)

Thanks! Yea, I wanted a custom look, as well as have that reflector visible, so yea. Same thing with the sidemarkers. Wanted to see the reflector and let light through.

You can get the same lens tint paint, but in red. Here is one off of eBay.

Yea, I would yellow them too. I am about to do that. But I recommend you get the HID yellow conversion kit, rather than yellow overlays. Looks good at day and night. Does't show that nasty yellow during the daytime, but has a brighter light at night.

Sorry for hijacking your thread.
/fog light discussion.

The tails look very good. I was curious about how the rustoleum paint would turn out for something like this, had a bad experience with vht nightshades
. May go pick this up and go for round two on my tails.

Thanks! One weird thing about the Rust-Oleum paint is that it sprays more evenly when you hold it upside down.
true but when you tape the perfect circle to the light the tape will go over the paper. If I use double stick tape I will have to cover every bit of the circle so it wont let paint seep through.
I will have to thoroughly think this one out and improvise a bit on this one...
