How many AE's were made?

Is there any info out there regarding how many AE maximas were made in 2001? How many of these were 5spd and perhaps the colors on each?

google search and forum search didnt reveal anything but just want to get a rough idea of how rare the 5spds are !

Is this where I post telling you about mine?

I've never really heard anything about a 'set' number of them that Nissan sold. They werent really 'limited edition.' AKA 1 of 1000

I understand they weren't numbered and thats mainly becaused the AE was an optional ADD-ON package for the SE in 2001. But they should still be limited in numbers, despite the fact that nissan didn't number them.

Actually, they were numbered. Those of you AE owners, check your keys/books. You should have a little ID plate on your backup/original keyring with your number.

My number is 02181, thus indicating that there could have been 99999 made.

I read up somewhere about the rough production estimate of the AE, but I don't recall.

As for how rare things are, everything is relative. If your looking within the Maxima enthusiast community, you'll definitely find a lot more manual transmission cars (esp, 5-speed AE's). Outside of the community, it's fairly difficult to find. For example. it took me quite a while to find a one-owner, salt-free, non-abused, black on black 5-speed AE. It all depends on what your looking for .

I miss mine. I sold mine for $7.5K. 5speed and 88K miles back in early 2008. Beautiful plush cars with alot of power. I knew they were more rare than the factory SE's but didn't know they were numbered.

Oddly enough, mine is the only 20AE I have seen or heard of that did not come with ground effects from the factory. It's been in the family since new, so they weren't removed. Sadly, it's an autotragic, but it's still hard to beat as a daily driver.

Really, ^^ yours didn't come with the ground effects? That's a bit odd. Also, I don't think up to 99,999 have been made, I believe it's well below the 20,000 mark.

20,000 for the US? I think even 2,000 is a lot. how many 5th gen's were sold in 2001? of these only the SE's are upgradeable to the AE, meaning that a percentage of 01 SE's are non AE's. I doubt the US sold 100,000 maximas in 01

...but 6MT's only, with heated, cloth seats. Let's narrow the focus a little, eh?

Actually, tcaughey's post about the ID plate was kind of interesting, miscellaneous info.

About 110,000 Maxi pads were sold in 01, so AE's made up a very very small percentage of that. Max production was really scaled back in 02 to 90k or so units and much less than that in 03 (83k units) and subsequent years.

Yep, no effects, no mounting marks, and I have the original bill of sale somewhere. And the S/N says it's a 20AE, so it's not like the dealership slapped on the 20AE badging when they sold it new either.

It was probably a Canadian cold weather special or something; ground effects don't do well in 14" of snow.

In the end, it's just as well, since i don't like the look of the ground effects the car was supposed to have had.

Gotta be the canadian version. I don't think they came with the body kit.

Yeah, 20,000 AE's are pushing it. I actually remember reading somewhere that ooohhh roughly 7-8k of the 2001s were AE's. Still seems a bit high, but it's probably one of those facts that we may never really know.

Still, I'd like other AE owner's input on the little ID plate. Anyone else happen to have one?

It would be really interesting to find #1, but that's my crazy enthusiast side talking. Haha

They made 1 AE in 2001, just like they make 1 GXE, 1 GLE, and 1 SE.

Really bugs me our Canadian anniversary editions dont have the lip kit. I've never even seen one in person with that kit, and I've seen plenty of them. (AE's)

There is even one at the wreckers near to me... No kit.

I checked for this on my spare and indeed I do have the little ID plate on the ring. it reads 10826 but im not sure if it really is refering to production numbers.

and the AE cant be considered "rare" when its all visual stuff that can be added to any 00-01...engine cover, wheels, pedals, floor mats, body kit, emblem, headlights (did I remember it all?) I hade three of those on my 00

I think...... well 1 I think this is another one of those threads, we are on a roll this week for dumbest threads... I can call AE's rear as if you convert ur 00 to an AE doesn't make it an AE, and to soonerfan the AE had the inside badges and outside, also came LSD iirc... so yea I guess they are "rare" nothing to feel special about though... now lock this up

Me too, Sooner. Back in Fall 2002, I agonized over whether I should spend the extra $3000 on a loaded TE 6MT in Polished Titanium, or just go for the (far less rare) Sheer Silver 6MT in basic trim.

I opted for the lesser expense, and have regretted it ever since. Love my car, but would love it more if... Aw man, I hate dredging this crap up.

so many AE haters in here. the floormats are discontinued, the lip kit is impossible to find and the LSD is pretty rare. go ahead and duplicate it. I guess I can go ahead and get a non turbo 911 and add the proper parts to make a GT3 RS, cuz the GT3 RS is not that rare when u really think about it now

Yeah, I don't understand all the haters either. This is a discussion forum, and if used properly, members should actually be able to discuss relevant issues, thoughts, ideas, etc.

You trolls asking the the threadlock, you should be happy this isn't ANOTHER thread asking "WHATS THE BEST INTAKE/HEADER SETUP!?"

And to the OP, I think your question isn't one that's readily known or has been discussed in some time. I've searched for a few years and still cannot find a proper answer to the AE question. I feel you are justified .

On the rare issue, it's all relative to what the public considers "rare". Rare to one may be common to another. Haha, "rare" is a very subjective question to be throwing around in an enthusiast community.

It's true. I see far less of those than anniversary Maximas.
I do and have always loved the AE... But it's hard to want one, when one year after, they basically followed up with a superior platform... (3.5/6MT) Which is exactly why I wanted a 2002/2003 instead when I bought mine recently.
