99 maxima- won't engage in any gears

I have an 99 maxima with an auto tranny with 199,978 miles on it. Car has been running absolutely perfect. Today i'm going to make a left into traffic and I get a clunk and the car stops moving and wont engage in any forward or reverse gear.

Car goes into park and sounds like its doing something but I get nothing more than a buzzing sound and acts as if the cars in nuetral. I've had the occasional slipping on a cold morning in that past but otherwise no problems what so ever. Car is on an incline now but fluid level seemed within range, no leakage or abnormal smells or colors. I checked the codes and theres a P1320 (ignition related) thats been on for months and nothing else.

I tried searching and the only thing I came up with was checking cv's (which I did and they seem fine). Only other guesses are torque converter/solenoid/transmission itself.

Anyone have any other suggestions or things to check? I really can't leave the max be done this close to 200k

I've been reading up since i posted and it does kind of seem like rather than troubleshooting and diagnosing the problem it would prob be cheaper to throw in a tranny and be done with it.

did you check to see if one of your drive axles poped out or broke

I couldn't really get under the car the way it was sitting, but jacking up each wheel it appeared that everything was normal and a shake and pull on each cv felt ok.

Most likely an axle failure. Park is a hard pin within the tranny and if your not getting that to work I'd definately look really hard at your axles. Either a CV has completely failed or seperated within the boot.

It does engage it park, when shifted into reverse and any forward gears it acts as if the car is in neutral, regardless of throttle. I think I may move the car to somewhere where I can get under it and take a closer look at the CV's. They both were replaced prob about 60-70k ago with remans from advance or autozone so I wouldn't doubt their failure. That sure would be an easier fix.
