seekin exhaust advice

okay...don't flame me on this, but it seems so weird.
the exhaust on my maxima decided to take a crap on me.
well what actually happened is when ever someone sit's in the back, the i-beam hit's the muffler (it was replaced awhile back and they did a ****ty job).

so that cause the pipe to separate from the resonator.
so i have 3 catalyst and a resonator.
and this car is loud.
all that was keeping it quiet was the muffler?...no way.

anyway i noticed with the exhaust like this the car actually gains power...I'M SERIOUS!!!!

normally a car would be slow as hell.
my beretta gtz was slow with the exhaust leak.
my 3rd gen maxima was slow with the exhaust leak.

i need a y-pipe too.
so i'm getting that replaced.
but if i was to get a y pipe.
get rid of the resonator but keep the muffler...would i lose power big time?

cause at first i was just gonna replace the pipe from the resonator and back...but get rid of the muffler.

any advice??

huh??? i read the op post and jus got confused.

I say replace entire exhaust with ebay aftermarket. the Cat should be fine. or get a high flow cat that really still is a cat and not a test pipe.

with the hi-flow cat will i still pass the emissions?
i'm confused myself, as to how the exhaust is.

i'm gonna have to bite the bullet and replace the whole thing. a buddy of mine is willing to help me replace the y-pipe.

A hi-flow cat is a test pipe. THAT WONT pass unless u block off the o2 sensor. Idk how to do that, but imo its not worth it. Lets not pollute the environment lol

If your cat is fine then jus leave it and get y-pipe and catback.

Depending on your car u may need a test pipe after the cat. CHeck underneath ur car, the rear o2 should have a flange downstream it that will mate to catback. If no flange u need a test pipe.

^^^

headers too hard to install. Need a car lift for the rear and there is no instructions for removal in the FSM.

HOwever, what u describe would be the way to go. Its jus that Y-Pipe and catback wayyyy easier and quicker to install than headers.

1 of the little cats are rattling.

oh yea...i don't want it to be loud either.

And where exactly can you get a stock y-pipe?? Does it have the pre-cats also??

just run open headers. no need for ypipe, cats or any of that matter. that will give you the extra powa you need.

I am not power hungry guy. Just want the original OEM quietness. Also, can I get a link to the site that sells it? Thanks.

I have the 2 precats + front manifold with stock y-pipe if needed. It sounds like you have a cali spec and I don't think that you can seperate the front manifold and cat even if it has bolts.

I got these smog results with it.

my exhaust broke off at the weld and basically ended up w no muffler. car was louder yes but i lost some torque along w it.
i was messing around w my friends sentra spec v vs my maxima without the muffler and he kept up w me, but after i fixed the muffler issue he was asking me what i did to my car. simply fixed a leak. lol
the only restrictive thing on this exhaust for performance as far as im concerned is the pre cats on the y pipe.

see, i get the opposite.
with the muffler connected the car is decently quick.
but with it off this thing has some *****...throughout the whole rpm range.

i just realized why my car is so loud.
that thing i thought was my resonator is actually a glass pack muffler...what the hell!

i have precats too.
and i always tell the exhaust shops that i still have my main catalyst so it'll still pass.
and they're like "no no can't do it".

Just keep in mind that a muffler leak can decrease performance as it decreases the velocity of the exhaust going through the muffler. This can also allow the exhaust to cool causing more back pressure. Now removing the muffler will most likely not reduce power.

^^^^ Ditto on that though. Open headers for that lambo sound!

Otherwise go with that people are saying. Highflow cat + warpspeed Y-pipe. And be quite AND quick!

Not sure on the glasspack ... depending on how quite it is get that as well.

a spark plug defouler will do the trick. you can pick one up at any auto parts store. lemme just give you a rundown on what exactally that is; a spark plug defouler threads on to the end of the spark plug its baisically a shield for the plug / o2. the spark gets through but no oil / fuel. it will also thread directly over the o2. your post cat o2 is simply a "snitch" it taddles on the cat if the cats not doin its job. then comes the stupid orange light that i know we all hate. since the defouler is over the sensor there is no excessive nox/ hc's to report. no stupid llight and emissions passed. i had a honda heh, (Had One Never Did Again)with a gutted cat and i passed.

and i'm no scientist, but i've heard those are bad.

kill your cat for the environment.

yea it creates C02. Every combustion process does. There is nothin u can do about that. The cat gets rid of NOx. Thats a worse gas than CO2.

Did some reading...so basically the defouler will cap off the o2 so it cant sniff the amount of o2 in the exhaust stream. Instead it wont know any amount of o2 and wont do anything.

That is a risk. I did it and it worked for one cat but didn't for the other. I ended up buying an o2 simulator anyway. NOT WORTH IT.

Was it the one from o2sim.com? They aren't the cheap 555ic switch. I've tested it and the voltage actually vaires within range. It fools the car everytime.

Perhaps the one you received was broken, it was installed near a heat source or just incorrectly. I installed mine inside the car right near my ecu. It hasn't given me a problem.

Some of us don't have a choice. I have a Cali spec vehicle and refused to have a precat on my front bank and have the rear bank clear. I also refused to have a supercharger on a stock cali spec manifold.

I will not even try telling you how much of a doofus you sound with that post.
Here, read THIS and learn what a catalytic converter actually does.

There are so many solutions for example leave your cat if it's fine and try to get catback and y-pipe.
