99 Cali spec 5 speed Maxima SE ECU in i30
99 Cali spec 5 speed Maxima SE ECU in i30
I have a 1999 Cali Spec i30 auto that is being converted to a 5 speed. I purchased a 1999 Cali spec Maxima SE manual ECU to deal with the CELs and idle issues that I've read about.
I just want to confirm that this ECU should work without any problems. I'm aware that the key needs programming.
After doing hours of researching it seems that there are a crap-load of ECUs available for our cars. There are different ones for Cali/fed, auto/auto with traction control/manual, SE/GLE/GXE and to Sept98/from Oct98 options which make sense. The ones with and without power seats make no sense to me and it seems that there isn't a 5spd power seat 99 Cali spec option at all.

I looked at the choices available on car-part and have come to the following conclusion: There are only 4(four) units to select from that meet your criteria.
SE MT before 9/98
SE MT after 9/98
GXE MT before 9/98
GXE MT after 9/98
These appear to be the only MT California emission versions that were in use in 99.

I just wanted to know what does powerseat have to do with the ecu?
Not sure, but it doesn't appear that you need to be concerned with it. There is no mention of any of the California manual trans ECU's having that distinction.
BTW, I'm running a 96 Fed MT I30 ECU in my 98 with no issues. I don't think it so critical to get the absolute right ECU for your swap, because if you think about it once you have swapped from AT to MT you have no reference for anything stock anyhow.

LOL, I guess I made the post too long. Can't wait to get my car back after the swap. Auto plus S/C blows. Car wouldn't want to shift and when it did it wouldn't grab. I had to release the throttle for it to shift and couldn't mash it too hard or downshift and all hell breaks loose.
Oh yeah, stay away from the transgo shift kit. It caused a slip from 2-3 which wasn't there before installing it exactly how the paper described. 1-2 did shift harder but only until it warmed up. That is what caused my auto to fail in 2-3 weeks.
