Hey guys, well I'm new here and this is my first thread. I bought a 99 maxima a few months ago w/ only 108,000 on it and I love it! My first mod was adding some h&r's and tokico illuminas that I got off a fellow org'er. Unfortunately, ever since i put them on, I have been hearing a rattling coming from the rear left strut tower every time I hit a bump. After inspecting the strut I can see that it moves around a lot when i push down on the rear end and the other one doesn't move at all. What do ya guys think? Anyways, here's my car...

usually that clunky noise when going over bumps means bad strut mount, are the strut mounts new or old? if they are the originals then its probably time to change them

 

They are the mounts that came with them. Would that allow the strut to move up and down like that?

 

I cant view the video....firewall.

But usually strut travle like that means strut blown

 

definitely appears to be the mount not necessarily the strut it self.

This happened to my fronts, I changed the mounts and no problem. I may have the same problem in my rear. You can get the mount kit at your local auto parts store, although the strut bearing that the aftermarket provides usually sucks. There is a thread on here that recommends buying the factory bearing but they are $30. a piece where as the aftermarket is $30 for the set (bearing only).

 

I think you guys are right on it being the mount, because the struts feel fine, and they don't bounce more the once when pushed on. Thanks for all the help, i really appreciate it!

Problem solved!! It indeed was the strut mount, the shop that installed them forgot to put one of the bushing in. So I had to get one off my oem shock, luckily it fit no problem. So thanks again for the help guys!
