5 speed gearbox bearings

I have 98' Max 5 speed, , recently the gearbox bearings and drive shafts bearings were replaced cause they made noise even in motor working in idle.
So and also the clutch OEM was replaced to Exedy Stage1. Ok so I got the car
and the car is in 1/4 mile slower approximentely 1.5 seconds. Is this normal.
Also during driving you could hear some noise from gearbox.
Can anybody comment that?

I think I'm having the same issue. I was planning on having my oil seals done at the same time as my transmission bearings and seals.

I don't fully understand the question I guess. Are you on a track, running a quarter mile and you are 1.5 sec slower? The simple answer is that like everything, there is a break in period. The new bearings are much tighter and the tollerances are a lot less than the pervious set. As for the noise coming from the gearbox, mine has always made noise. Both before and after rebuild. Most of my noise comes from the shifter. I think it's because it's all solid and connected, the noise travels easliy. You don't want to hear gritty noises, grinding - like sand beneath a metal ball on a flat surface. Spinning noise is very common with our 5mt.

1.5 secs slow is noticable. I agree with JTZ, allow for break in period. Especailly with new clutch.

Noises? I dont think u shd hear any noise. I say drain and replace fluid jus to be sure no debris in there.

New bearings need a break-in oil for the period while the bearings are mating with the races. Use a cheap lube for 500 miles or so, then throw some dedicated gl-4 in there.

the work on your transmission has nothing to do with your car being slower in the 1/4 mile. pure coincidence. something else is wrong.

The noise from the gearbox could have been from any number of things. Replacing bearings does not eliminate all of them. What did the transmission rebuilder tell you they found?

Also the 1.5s is not likely to be coming from the hard parts of your drivetrain. If it were, it would be in the form of frictional losses. I suspect the amount of friction required to slow the car 1.5s over a quarter mile would cause it to catch fire. I would look for the time elsewhere.

Is the clutch slipping?
