Animal attack and 2 speed trans

My Max was running fine one day and inoperable and barfing fluid the next. My wiring harness to the crank position sensor, the crank reference sensor and one trans cooling line were literally chewed off over night by some kind of animal!

After finding and fixing the damage, I now have a trans code 0734 "4th gear wrong ratio". I only have 1st and 3rd gears. I can't find any other wiring damage. HELP!!!

shes in limp mode, i think. make sure shes topped off with fluid, than reset the ecm. see if it comes back.. otherwise you might have to bring it to a dealer and have the tcm looked at.

FallenOne,

That makes some good sense. I will try that. Thanks a lot.

Those splash guards are important as you can see. You should get them replaced to aviod this problem again in the future. Now you said you have a code for "4th gear wrong ratio" right? But also you stated you only have 1st and 3rd gears...so what happened to 2nd gear?

Trini Boom,

The spash guards were all on and intact.

4th is electronically engaged, but I don't know about 2nd gear....I hope the limp mode theory is correct.

limp home mode is 3rd gear.
the tcm keep's the car in 3rd gear when it's in lhm.

does it feel like 4th gear is kinda iffy?

can you shift into second gear manually?

It fooled me at first because I thought it shifted and dropped rpm, then I realized I just backed off on the throttle and it was free wheeling.

No. It starts in 1st then just slips where 2nd should be...doesn't engage, then collects itself slowly and finds 3rd. 1st and 3rd are smooth and quiet. I had it up to 75 in 3rd and it was fine. If I try to force a downshift to 2nd, it attempts the shift, but just doesn't engage...when I let off it goes back to 3rd.

unfortunately no... You seem to have some wonderful tranny issues my friend. Did you ever check the color of the fluid or anything? If sufficient material was in the fluid it could be essentially tac-welding the clutch packs together...

Wonderful??? I change the fluid every year, and since I had to change the trans line anyway it got fresh fluid again last week along with Lucas trans treatment.

ooh.. Theres yer problem... sometimes it can still up trans material and some of it can get stuck in the shift solenoid chambers. This could be the reason.. You might want to look into checking out your previous work, as well as mabey a new tranny.. so sorry buddy.
