Stuck Sunroof!

Never had an issue with it before... Open the sunroof today no problem (rolling all the way back) then try to close it and the damned thing gets stuck. Seems to be catching on one side... Not sure what it is actually catching on however.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Suggestions? Like search and stickies?
if you wanna find a letter (sunroof is a good word to start at) press ctrl+f and enter "sunroof."
You've had 600 post, been here awhile. You should know this.

You're pretty much between a rock and a hard place; people get pissed if you search and bring back an old thread, but people get equally pissed if you start a new thread on a topic that's already been covered. Lose-lose.

Is the sunroof actually getting stuck, or is it just stopping? That is to say, does the motor keep whirring while the glass stays put, or does the motor sound stop?

I have this problem occasionally: halfway to sliding all the way shut, the motor stops whirring and the sunroof stops. The switch stops responding. Occasionally isn't actually the right word; I'd say this happens two times out of three. To get around it, I fiddle with the tilt switch a bit and then go back to the slide switch, which then resumes function until the roof is shut. I can't even begin to imagine why this happens, but since I have found a way around it I don't really care.

EDIT: Just saw that your glass is actually getting stuck on something, never mind...sorry I couldn't help..

Bringing back an old thread or starting a new one over a covered subject is the same... YOU NOOBS REFUSE TO READ. Honestly, is reading text that's above your post really that hard? You have some psychological problems so you can only read post below yours?

Case in Point - NONE of you noobs siding with OP had anything useful to contribute.

i had the same problem in another car it turned out my track was dirty and was causing too much stress on the motor. When it hits a certain amount of resistance it will cut power to save the motor from burning out, check where you can for dirt clean it and re-grease the track. I used white lithium grease i dont know if there is something better. it doesnt attract dirt.

common sense distates that you lube up all the doors and antenna plus any moving metal on metal tracks, ie., sunroof. winters are tough on metal, and grease does'nt last forever so you lightly use lithium grease and wipe off any excess so as not to have it dripping all over and collecting extra dirt and crap in the area's sprayed. lesson 101 in lube is now done, thank you.

Wow. Just woke up to read all this.

I did search, honestly it was a quick one. I just did a search for "sunroof" - got 250 posts, I trolled thru about 100... not a single one about a stuck sunroof.

Thanks for the tips guys. I'll take a look at it again today. Re-greasin it I figured was the solution, wasn't sure if I should use something else to get it to slide better tho like wd-40 or something...

That vqpower post is nice as well, I honestly hope I don't have to go that far tho... I'm sure I could do it, just looks like a PITA! Thanks for that link as well. I do have that link to the FSM's, I'll look for the section on the sunroof.

Edit - I also went over that vqpower link... I wasn't going to completely rebuild the thing, I was hoping to be able to clean & regrease the track or something along those lines first... what's the first step? The link says sunroof maintenance/service, is the only option replacing parts? I'll get some of this "white lithium" stuff. Thanks again.

Truth be told I don't give a **** how long you've been around or how many posts you've made. The search function works sometimes and doesn't work other times. I do my best but really, there are ten billion posts here and sometimes it's hard to sort the gold from the detritus. If the OP couldn't find anything, I don't see any reason not to try and help. And what I and the other "noob" posted were serious attempts at fixing the OP's problem. br0nz even came up with something that was useful for me to know. Maybe some "noob" will someday search and find helpful information here.

More importantly, it's a goddamn computer database holding nothing but text. If the same information is posted twice, it isn't going to bring the server crashing to its knees. The way you people ***** and moan about redundancy is the farthest thing from welcoming and doesn't speak well of people who own Maximas - as though we need to reinforce the stereotype of us being a bunch of purple-window-tint-applying, gold-badge-having, hair-gel-wearing asswipes who drive 20 over the limit at all times of day.

really??? i mean damn!!! i just saved a least 3,000.00 in the last 4 and a half years thanks to these forums and i appreciate the op that helped me greatly!!! i've noticed alot of new members who have alot to say, and an equal amount who have mis-information so i guess thats all you can do is to pay attention and sift through the bs. after all, you can't believe/trust everything you read cause we all expierience something different from time to time.

theres a stickie on how to search. highlight 4th gen section, highlight search by relevancy, and search "stuck sunroof", "broken sunroof", etc. you get alot of results that way

I _did_ search. What I found was not helpful. I have received a few helpful responses, with a lot of bickering.

I found that vqpower link in the stickies before I posted this thread. Evidently I need to say that in my first post? All that vqpower how-to had was how to basically do a complete repair on the sunroof. I was hoping there was a step before you rip apart your headliner and sunroof... Hence I posted this thread.

It does appear that the arm on the passenger side of the sunroof is not moving up or down. I managed to get the sunroof slid closed, but the arm on that side won't move up or down so it doesn't look like the sunroof is going to seal very well. I'm going to try to get this arm up to at least get the sunroof sealed, and then if I can get a good quote have it fixed professionally. Thanks again guys, let me know if you have any other tips.

Oops! meant post,(not site) I agree, I have got a little bit of information here, i just hate it when I do a search and have to sift through all the dam negative comments that have nothing to do with the subject at hand!

I to am having a problem with the sunroof, but I believe I will need to rebuild.
You never know this guys post could lead to more valuable information...
