New 2011 Maxima 2.5?

http://content.usatoday.com/communit...w-g25-sedan-/1

Anybody know more about this engine, and if Maximas will get it too? At 218 hp, that's pretty darn low for a v6 of modern times.

Makes me wonder why they didn't go with a QR25DE from the Spec-V and put some boost on it?

What if Nissan did offer a Maxima with 2.5 liter v6? Think it would boost sales? And seeing that Maximas haven't had a manual transmission in years, maybe they could put a 6MT into the 2.5. This could be the edge over the Altima to keep sales going.

I think they are working up to a boosted 2.5 v6.

I just found out it's the vq25hr. Same engine as the japanese 250gt skyline.
http://www.insideline.com/nissan/201...rst-drive.html

Man, if they would just put some boost on there, I'd be happy too!

So if the JDM ver is 222hp, isn't that the same as the 2001 Maxima Anniv Edition? (Which's the 3.0 still). It feels like Nissan/infiniti is going backwards with the 2.5.

I just think we'll see one of these engines boosted in a new nissan car soon. Maybe a 250SX...

There's always the heavily rumored revival of the 240SX. Seems to me, this little V6 would fit nicely in a car that size, with adequate performance.

the 240sx revival is fugly though, same with Toyotas FT86 and new Supra prototype. they were awesome cars but discontinued and thats how it should stay, the new prototypes are just ugly. the only good looking prototype was of the new 240z, but 240z were out of production in what, the mid 70's?

they just need to bring back light 2dr RWD cars with frog/retractable/flipup or whatever you want to call them headlights. nobody is making anything anything tuner really besides Subaru now

I'm with you about the pop-up headlights. I always loved those in my old 1992 240SX. Very sexy.

And yeah, I don't care for that Silvia prototype. It looks dull. Like something Chrysler would design.

Even the Vette ditched the pop-ups. That was a shocker.

I miss headlight pop-ups.

I have been looking into this....The G25 will have the same class of engine as the G37, just obviously smaller. They are going to drop this into the same body as the G37 supposedly with all the same features. It will be $3,000 less that the G37 and come in three flavors..basic,journey,AWD. The benifit will be much better fuel economy and an offering to those that need to save a few bucks and don't need/desire a 3.7 L under the hood.

Have not read anywhere where this will make it into the Maxima!

It also allows them to justify dropping the entry model G37, and go only with the Premium, and the S. The base G37 just went up $3K.

With a $6K difference between the G25 and the G37, the G25's are going to be flying off the lot.

Not to my driveway, however. That's nuts.

Trust me, there not going to release a model under 250whp. Nissan is always right at the forfront of the power market, there not going to produce something that under powered.

Yeah, that was some good rumors back in the day.

Do you think it would?! It would make a pretty good argument vs a 3.5 Altima alternative. However, Nissan must have an optional 6sp manual with the 2.5 Maxima.

Looks like it's with the auto trans only. But the boys at GTM have a built auto trans. Would be interesting to see if they would make a TT for it. I might have to hold off thinking of getting a 2011 maxima for this.

Where does this speculation come from? The maxima will only have the VQ35 and it will only be auto unless they make a special edition. Hell does Nissan even offer any FWD V6 manuals anymore?

It's not a maxima it's the infiniti G25.

As the title states (or asks), will there be a 2.5 Maxima?

Altima has v6 manual, right? I'm thinking a 2.5 Maxima 6MT would sway quite a few potential Altima 3.5 buyers, or even some G25 lookers.

They're not gonna do that unless they want to loose more of their customers.

Why? They're not taking away the 3.5 Maxima. The 2.5 will be another choice for people looking at Maximas.

Lose Maxima customers, Nissan customers, or Infiniti customers? You can't lose something you don't already have, and we know the Altima sales (~20k units in 2009) have surpassed Maxima sales, even though the Maxima was once their Flagship car.

retarded question but i know they stopped making Maximas in stick because dealerships had a hard time selling them, but cant they make 6spd for definite buyers special order from the factory? im sure its not hard on their end to do that and if they could get some definite buyers it might be worth it

What would you rather have a TT G25 or a G37. Cause you would figure a TT on a G25 would bring it up to if not more hp for roughly the same as a G37.

a 2.5 maxima wouldn't be that bad. in some other countries(including my home country Trinidad) they come with 4 motors....QR20DE,VQ23DE(yes there is a vq23),VQ30DE and VQ35DE....all with iCVT.
