Service Manual

I'm trying to find out if anyone has or knows a place online or on here where I can find a complete service manual for the 4th gen max. I managed to download one for my legend for free off the Legend forum so I'm hoping to have the same luck here as well. Please let me know. Thanks.

You can also replace the model year to the one you own like 1996, 1997, etc. from 1994-2004

Yea, phatg20 had some good articles and such up on there.

I'd have the FSMs on my site if someone wouldn't keep reporting it to NNA legal. Someone from the forums, in fact. Meh.

Not that it matters as my site's down anyway ATM.

I'm an uber noob and its amazing. Yes, there is MUCH room for improvement BUT where else am I going to get complete guides on removing / servicing / installing pretty much every part on the damn car!? The Haynes even goes into detail on rebuilding a effin VQ30 or VQ35!! It's an invaluable resource especially since I am swapping a 2004 Maxima VQ35 into my '98...[The Haynes covers '93-'04] maybe its not so hot for the mechanically inclined but I would be more lost than I am now without it. The book is worth WAYYYYYYYYYY more than $20 in knowledge....of course the org is worth twice that!

Well, the FSM, for one. And it covers things much better and in greater detail.

Again, not as well as the FSM. Also, since it has to jump between the VQ30 and VQ35, there are steps that don't apply to both, or are just completely wrong. IIRC Haynes even covers a little bit of the VE, which is completely different and adds to the confusion.

Get yourself a print copy of the FSM and you'll throw the Haynes away. The '93-'04 Haynes is a 'jack of all trades' sort of book, good enough for some light stuff, but for example the electrical diagrams in the back are obscenely wrong in places, are organized terribly, and struggle to cover 11 years (5 different engines, 3 different chassis, 5 or 6 different types of trans).

On another note, back when I first got a Maxima, I had picked up a Haynes that was '95-'01 (IIRC), and had much better specific information than the '93-'04 books now do. A quick search on Amazon doesn't show one, wish I hadn't lost it.

I agree a big hindrance is that I have the pdf copy of the FSM it sucks. I still think its a good supplement to the FSM. The Max is the first car I really worked on and cross referencing between the forums, haynes, and the FSM, all help me understand what is going on. **** its only when I picked up my VQ35, I saw and was able to identify the TB, which immediately put a lot of what I read into a better context and perspective. Well anyways enough writing I will keep an eye out for a print copy of the FSM.
