Got me some nice brakes!

Just a note for those who might be looking at new brakes.

I was running Wagner Thermo Quiet Pads on a blank rotor. I got about 30K out of them before a slight pulsation started. Brake's were pretty good, not much dust at all and had a descent bite after they were warmed up.

I just replaced the rotors with el'cheap-o blanks from my local auto parts store and threw on a set of Hawk HPS pads. Completely flushed the brake system as I always do when I do brakes. Went for a ride and bed them in as per the instructions with the Hawk pads.

I now know why some of you guys run these pads. WOW - Nice brakes!
They definately grab better then the Wagner's did. I'll be putting the Hawks on the rear as well as soon as I get them ordered.

My .02 cents for the day.

and here I was hoping for picture of a new big brake setup.

j/k. enjoy those, but yeah, they do dust lots. I am running ebc green stuff and they don't dust too bad.

Where'd you order from and how much? I've been wanting to upgrade for quite some time too. I'm tired of my thermo quiets

I had my local Mothers Speed shop order them for me, $68+tax.

So they dust a bit, doesn't bother me, I wash my car every weekend.
I'll trade the dust for great stopping power any day.
Had a Bmer 330 for a few years, talk about dusty brakes!

The HPS are great pads. They do dust but I have had no problems with noise. Use some brake lubricant on the surfaces of the pad that contact the torque arm and caliper/piston if noise becomes an issue.

I put those hawks HPS on 2 years ago and they're still good sized. They sure do last awhile. Like mentioned earlier the only drawback is the dust they form. A month after installing them I got dust sheilds for my wheels.

They're metal plates placed on the inside of wheels to keep the brake dust from getting to the outside.

Do a google search for 'maxima brake dust shields'. You'll get thousnads of results.

Not a fan of those dust shields. They also restrict air flow which causes the rotor to run a bit hotter. Not really the best thing for brakes.

I agree with you on that. A month after insetring those shields I removed the wheels to peek on those brakes (the shields block the brake view ). On account of the pad dust and air restriction the brakes were well darkened. I cleaned the calipers, rotors, brakets.... then reinserted those shileds for 2 more months. I haven't had them on since because cleaning the wheels is much easier than cleaning the brakes!

I def. want to do hawk pads for my fronts, I went with your last suggestion on the rears and run the Wagner Quietstops, they are good pads as well.

yes. I run the wagner thermoquiets on my DD 96 and they work fine for a DD (I've only been over 100mph in this car once in the year that I've owned it).

i used to have HPS on my other faster cars and they are far superior in braking power and fade resistance to parts store pads, but I have no need for them in a car that never gets floored and isn't driven hard, ever.

I've had those for years. Notice no difference with stock at all - both in bite and in dust. Or maybe I'm not aggressive enough.
