04 Maxima.. Se 95K on it.

On my way to canada i was driving around 80mph. All of a sudden i felt a drop on acceleration. SES light came on. Now i need to press more gas to keep up with 80mpg. MPG dropped big time. i was middle of no where. so drove to canada and came back like that. Went to auto zone and got about 4 codes. Smart/luck me i lost those code and cleard them. codes never came back on. but still, i feel power lost on acceleration, Less MPG.
Most important now i feel heat(hot air) is comeing though the engine wall(where our foot gose). is it possible to pull those code somehow?

Need Help.. Thanks in advance.

 

Maybe the dealer can pull them but I doubt it, I suspect if you drive a little more, the codes may come back. All else fails you probably need to take it in somewhere.

 

sounds like a cat issue. if the cats start to collapse in on themselves you will have minimal flow and lose power and the heat will be generated from the exhaust forcing itself by and super heating the cats. iv seen it happen on a mazda 3 same complaint so when i put it up on the hoist the body of the cat was orange almost white hot, which could explain the heat through your floor. dont just keep driving it. if it has an obvious issue like this your doing more harm by driving it like that. not to mention wasting a ton of fuel

 

What transmission do you have, the 5-speed auto? I can't really explain the heat thing, but It is possible that your transmission may be stuck in 5th gear, or fail safe mode. Did you feel a thump or hear a clunk prior to the loss of power? Shift the gear selector over to manumatic mode - does it say 5 on the dash at all times?

This problem has happened to a couple of people, and they resolved it by changing the Camshaft Position Sensors. See this thread:

If you're feeling excessive heat through the firewall/floorboards, look under the car and see if your cats are glowing. Does the engine seem like it's mis-firing at idle? Does it idle fine, just loss of power?

 

I look into that today ... sometime i feel little vibration.

 

Yes i do have 5 speed auto... Yes i did felt the thump when the power was loss.. i did try shift the gear selector over the manumatic mode it does go from 1 -2 -3-4 never went to 5 due to diving in local road i will try once i get to highway. However its just slow at picking up speed, once it gose to 3-4 its runs normal. even though i lost the code but i remember reading 3 codes saying rear Bank1 and rear bank 2 and Camshaft Position Sensors code... what do these stand for?

P.S :- I just called nissan dealer here. They told me the code still can be read eventhough the SES light is not showing. --Guys is it true?? or they just want to eat my money?

 

Bank 1 and Bank 2 codes could be Catalytic Converter, or O2 sensor related. Camshaft Position Sensor code would be a faulty Camshaft Position Sensor. As far as whether Nissan can still read the code...Yes they can.

 

I had a similar issue and it turned out to be my MAF sensor. I could not get over like 2K RPM.

P0420 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)
P0430 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)

Shoey1 and 1hawaii50 had some good ideas about the cats failing. Do not drive around like this too long, it can damage your engine.

u know what's funny.. i have the same problem. i have a 6.5.. never had a problem until someone touched my cat. it was for test fitting for Megan Racing and i notice that i was gettin heat thru the floor panels so now this all makes sense. i jsut don't have codes tho. ugh. probably have to adjust it now.

 

what should i do... start to cry or start to yell or start to course??? you guys tell me .. first of all, one of the org member mention even though the SES light is off they still can pull previous code. IT IS NOT TRUE. They couldn't find my previous code. However they charged me 130 for checking my car.. to me they didn't do ****. insted they came and told me my tranny is gone so does my TCM and cost is 5.5k. wtf man. i have always used a nissan transmission oil, Gear changing nice,, the oil is pink not even dark. so i asked the tech show me codes. he gose oh you take it anywhere no one will be able to find out only our computer can, because its internal. again wtf. so he give me the paper with verify found p0726 and u1000.-- By the way i do not have no Check lighs on.

My question to you guys--- WHen there is no SES or AT light is on .. how they came up with these 2 code and was unable to pull my previous/original code.

P.s- As i mention early i remember reading 3 code. one said rear bank 1, second one said rear bank 2, and third said cramshaft sensor. -----------and look what i got.. man one word.. Dealer just wanna rape your pocket.

STEALERSHIPS MAN!! i was told that the computer can pull up historic codes even if they're not on!! that's plain BS!!!!!! the codes are logged into your car and even if u clear them without fixing the problem, it'll still be there. have u pulled the P and U code before?

 

Yes i did .. and i told them listen im here because i had couple of code and i cleard it at autozone but lost those code. The lights never came back on but the problem is still there so please can you kindly pull those code for me .. he like ok let see what we can do ..I told him i remember 3 codes he said non are showing..oh wow Nissan Dealer... IS there is NO CEL then They wont be able to read it.

 

that's so BS then. the CEL are logged into ur car's computer chip freakin monkey faces!!! I will ask my hubby mechanic when i get home and see what's the proper verbage for it! u better go talk to that stealerships service manager!! i wouldn't have walked out nicely like u did. hell naaahhhhhh!!

 

WHat are The ---- Rear Bank 1 And rear Bank 2???

 

My best guess would be that those are related to the O2 sensors, or the catalytic converters.
