Is there a Cowl top insulation substitute?

I want to insulate the cowl top on a 97 maxima, and I am wondering whether I have to get the insulation strip from Nissan part number 66830-A32B001, or whether this is something for which I can easily use some other generic material?

Thanks

It's explained in this service bulletin. The insulation that was on there just fell apart. Basically it's supposed to prevent leaves and debris falling under the cowl and subsequently make it's way into the driver side vent and A/C and heater, or just decomposes on the wiper mechanism. I hope the insulation makes for a snugger fit of the cowl. I just cleaned the evaporator core and blower motor and would like to get some mileage out of the effort.

It's insulation. I was just wondering whether it's best to use the nissan one, or it's just as well to use something else. Like silicone, or some insulation tape. Just thinking out loud.
