miss firing after cleaning the engine.

ok, its a 95 maxima with a after market air filter on it thats it so the air filter is open and did get a little wet but i didnt run the car for like an hour after cleaning the motor. i figured after driving it the water would evaporate.

i clean my motor once every2 or 3 month but with highpressure water never a problem but last night i used purple power and a garden hose and got everything cleaned. when i left the house it was miss firing but i got on the highway and didnt feel them anymore. this morning it was doing it realy bad while driving and when i come to a stop sign it miss fires badly.

what could of messed up? maybe sucked little water from air filter in motor? or could their be water in the coil packs?

thanks guys.

Water in the spark plug tubes...pull them back out and get a rag to absorb it. Before you even ask, the heat will not dissolve the water. I had that same though too until my CEL tripped for a misfire and had to do it then..

well when i pulled em they look dry. its miss fire in cyl 3 and its the fuel injector im pretty sure cause i swapped coil packs. its the rear center cyl. well it cleared up a lot last night so i thought it was good i ran injector cleaner and this morning when i went to drive it it was missing really badly the injector wasnt opening at all then 10 mins after driving it slowly got better now it just randomly does it sometimes.

could it be a bad injector?

for sure it could be so im assuming that when you swapped coil packs around it didnt move with that assumption your choices are coil pack, injector or my favorite the spark plug. things do happen randomly like a week ago i was going to get my car inspected in the morning and driving at night whammo cel rear o2 sensor all you can do is laugh and take things as they come. the injectors can clog but they also have an electrical component that controls the pulse that can fail basic rule if it doesnt click while its running its bad oh and do use petroleum jelly to lube the rings when you put injectors in

Sad to say but if you removed the spark plug itself and it looks good, then yup, it would have to be the injector. Sorry dude.. That's the whole UIM removal..

"Things do happen randomly?" That is a scary thought! I am contemplating the purchase of a '98 GXE with 166k miles that has a "random misfire" trouble code!

well i got lucky lol, i pulled the plugs and two of them were rusted to hell and back had a good amount of water in the cyls i vacuumed out and put new NGK platniums same that came out of it.

i went ahead and did a compression check on the motor since it has 300k miles and it bumped 200-210 across all cyls is that pretty healthy or what?

I'm not sure you are doing your compression check correctly.

Anyhow, here is the FSM data for the Maxima VQ30DE engine:

Standard:
185psi @ 300rpm

Minimum:
142psi @300rpm

Difference between each cylinder:
14psi @300rpm

You may have cranked too much.
