Question?? Looking To Buy But??

I AM LOOKING TO JOIN THE MAXIMA SCENE. I HAVE A 95 240SX AND I AM THINKING OF TRADING IT ON A 91SE I SAW AT A LOT. ANY IDEAS WHAT I SHOULD LOOK FOR TO MAKE SURE THE CAR IS IN GOOD SHAPE?? IT HAS 97K ON IT AND IT IS A 5 SPEED. ONLY PROBLEM I COULD SEE WAS THAT THE RADIO CAME ON BUT NO SOUND CAME FROM ANY OF THE SPEAKERS.

I would get

A 92-94 SE with the VE engine which has 190hp rather then the 89-91's with 160 hp. and I would keep your 240 I dont think its a good trade for a 91 max, mabey a newer one.

to be perfectly honest,i think id rather have the VG,i wont lie,the 30 more horse is better, but ive really heard nothing but bad things about the VE,my first VG had 260k on it and still was very strong and not a leak or any smoking, another thing, the bose is most likely shot..had the same problem in my first VG 5spd,good thing is that when i traded it in for my 91 5spd,the front speakers still worked so i took em for my new one even though it dont have any bose problems,if its a straight up trade,go for it,those 240s really aint much quicker than a VG 5spd,when i was tradin my old one in for my new one i test drove a 95 240 5spd,and wasnt very impressed, only handled good...the VGs reaign supreme when it comes to low end,but the VE has a lot more up top,but i heard they got a bad lifter/valve ticking...up to you and also, the VEs go for a lot more $$

I'd rather keep the 240. You'd be better off getting a 92+ se with low miles.

VG - exhaust stud issue
VE - VTC issue

other than that it's a good car.

IMO keep the 240 and slap a turbo on it.
if it's the RWD in bad weather issue..get a beater car for 500 in the winter.

Keep the 240...way to much potential to give away. The Ka engine can be worked with to get some serious power, or you can swap in a Ca or an sr engine...both are serious powerplants

I agree that you should probably keep the 240.
First, it's newer.
Second, while I love the Max's styling to death, it's still a big, heavy car and won't have the light, close to the ground tossability that your 240 has (or can have). It'll feel a lot different. Heck, I switched from an old 4dr Accord to the Max, and while it does handle better, I can definitely tell the car is bigger and (a lot) heavier.

If you mod out your Max with Eibachs and Konis and sway bars, it'll probably corner really well, but not as well as your 240 potentially can if you mod that.

I think this is yet another case of 2 cars not being better or worse, just "different". The 240 and Maxima have different feels and priorities. If you feel you want to get away from the sports car thing and want a bigger, more comfy sports sedan, then the Maxima is your best choice next to a BMW. Just don't expect the Maxima to substitute your 240sx.

Good luck, and I hope this helped.

Rancid90SE is right about the 240.... is stock form, but the 240 has so much potential it's insane, just search for 240sx, or look even better search for Silvia, it's the japanese version of the 240, everything is the same except for the engine, and it's easy to get a jap spec engine. The 240 can very quickly run circles around the maxima, because it's a serious sports car, maxima basically is a luxury car that happens to be very sporty
