I'm doing my timing chains (bad tensioner but replacing everything while i'm in there) I was able to remove the intake cam sproket by holding the camshaft with a wrench but I'm having trouble removing the exhaust cam sproket what is the trick?

 

A cheater bar might help. I'm showing it's torqued to about 128 ftlbs.

 

Oh and I was using a crescent wrench on the shaft because 22mm was too small and 24mm was too big but the crescent has enough give that it keeps slipping off the shaft. I tried the cheater bar and smacking a socket drive with a hammer while a friend held the crecscent wrench on the shaft but neither way works that b**** will not come lose. Is there any special tools for this job?

 

Soak it in PB Blaster and wait 24 hrs. I'll look again, but hopefully it's not reverse threaded. I don't see them very much...

Looks like you gotta double wrench them..If they aren't broke, might want to think again about changing them.

 

In case someone else has the same problem here's the solution I've come up with. Use a 24 mm wrench and turn the exhaust cam towards the front of the car just a little, you want the cam to try to turn back. This is going to put tension on the wrench so you can put a chain on the wrench and then wrap that chain around metal support in the front of the engine bay. A couple of bolts can be used to secure the chain to itself. Use a cloth or towel to keep from scratching your car. Then take an 18" breaker bar and a good 17mm socket to the exhaust cam bolt.

Also, if you need to suspend your engine with a 3 point engine support I found that the crossmember engine mounts are the best place to attach the supports. Use a jack to hold the engine in place when the crossmember is being removed and then slip the crossmember/engine bolts back in place. On the back engine support there's a metal guard that keeps dirt from the engine support, I just wrapped a towel around the chain to keep it from damaging the guard.
