I have a strange humming sound coming from the front end that increases in sound the faster a go. There's also a vibration that comes around 60 mph that can be felt in the car, not necessarily in the steering wheel. I think the humming sound is coming from bad wheel bearings. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

its something that rotates...could be tires, bearings, worn LCAs. Gotta get the car on a lift and check her out.

 

Turn left and right slightly while going 60MPH and see if the noise changes due to weight shifting around on the front. If it does, and you know it's not the tires, it's probably the wheel bearing.

 

okay, my driver side wheel bearing probably needs to be replaced. I noticed the other day when doing like 80 on the interstate that I hear a humming sound when ever the road had a lean to it

 

Yes that is your bearings if you hear a humming...but if you also get a vibration when turning or even applying brakes, check your ball joints as those are probably bad.

Some people tend to say its cheaper to relace the ball joint itself rather than the whole control arm. Why replace ball joint and then maybe a month or two later, your bushings are making noises or hearing thuds?? If it is your ball joint, just replace entire LCA wwith sway bar end link bushings.

Yep, going to change both bearings and both control arms with original Nissan control arms. Read to many horror stories about people just pressing in new ball joints and them failing not long after.

 

Ok I have the same humming and if it's not your tires, bearings or LCA what else could cause this sound?

 

Mine was more of a womp womp that increased with speed when my bearings needed to be replaced.

 

My 97 had a front end noise that would increase in sound as you went faster. I always explained the noise as something that sounded like it was "osculating". Or whoop whoop whoop. This noise was quite evident on the drivers side.

After replacing the axels, twice, I finally had the mechanic replace the drivers side bearing. {He and I were slightly in disagreement to the problem} Noise was greatly reduced, however, we still had the same sound. Replaced the passenger side bearing and car is like new.

Wife thinks the stereo is better now.. Go figure.

i have a i35 with the same problem just without the vibration, any1 kno what it is?

 

Brake Check will test em for free just say u want the brakes checked and if they can check the noise as well.
