06 6spd Transmission in a 5.5gen?

just as the title says, does the transmission out of a 05-06 Maxima bolt right up or does it need any type of modifications. i figure it wouldn't but just want to make sure.

i've done it. So have a few others. The only thing is there is a tiny modification to where the cables connect to the transmission shifter linkage. Not sure what has to be done, but it's easy and very obvious. My mechanic told me after the swap.

Yes it bolts. And you will be marginally quicker but with a lower top speed in every gear due to the shorter final drive ratio. There may be a SLIGHT drop in MPGs.

Reason for replacing?

ok cool, this pretty much exactly what i was looking for. reason for replacing is because its 178K on my transmission in my 02. I believe my syncro's or bearings are going up

did you install yours yourself or a shop? If so how much did you pay or how hard was it to get the trans up to the motor. i had put a motor in my car this weekend. I Realized it wasn't that easy to get the trans aligned with the motor(once motor was back in the car. i had to drop the crossmember and than still was a pita to get it in.

eh, syncros should be ok. unless you go in and out of gear... at every opportunity... just for the hell of it... with no gear oil. and these transmissions are very nice to bearings, or so i've been told. but i guess with enough abuse, you can break anything.

wiggling it in was fun on my car, your platform is a *little* larger, might be a bit easier. i haven't paid a shop for work since my first (and last) injector replacement, lol. alignment itself is easy, initial mounting is the tricky part if you're tight on room.

your only concern in my opinion is whether the trans you're replacing with has hlsd or not. look through the diff, if you don't see anything, you're golden. if you see a couple of gears and a bar, it's an open diff tranny.

yea its def a straight bolt on i have on in my 02 6spd only mod i had to do was splice the connector for the reverse sensor on top of the trans. if i recall correctly these are the steps

  1. take out your battery and battery tray
  2. take out your intake
  3. remove the shift linkage from the top of the trans 4 10mm bolts and also 2 13mm bolts from the side
  4. remove the trans mount 4 14mm bolts bolted onto the trans and the actual bolt through the mount
  5. take out your starter 2 14mm bolts
  6. take off master slave cylinder
  7. now loosen up the lugs and jack up the car
  8. put on jack stands VERY IMPORTANT
  9. take off wheels
  10. disconnect from suspension 2 bolts the head is a 17mm and the nut is a 19mm
  11. take off the caliper believe its a 13 and a 14mm bolts
  12. now on the bottom of the trans on the driver side youll see 2 big alan key screws the one on the bottom is to drain it is a size 10 alan key put a drain bucket underneath and let it drain out
  13. now with that all apart CAREFULLY tug on the driver side axle to pull out (be careful where you pull so you dont rip the boot (happened to me)
  14. for the passenger side you have to get under the car and youll see a support bearing holding the axles with 3 12mm bolts;take out the bolts and tug CAREFULLY on the axle to pull out
  15. with both axles out and everything disassembled from the trans now put a jack under the trans to hold it up
  16. unbolt all bolts from the trans there should be i believe 6 17mm bolts on top and 2 14mm bolts on the bottom ( you will need an open ended wrench for the bottom ones) also from underneath the car youll see one 17mm bolt facing the passenger side above the y pipe
  17. with all that unbolted start wiggling your trans off CAREFULLY so you dont mess up the main shaft
  18. have some way to balance the trans so it doesnt just fall ( i went out and bought a trans jack from pepboys $100)
  19. when thats done its just reverse order from there and when everythings back together just use that size 10 alan key open the top screw and fill with 75-90w gear oil make sure axles are in first if not the fluid will just fall right out the axle ports; it takes 2 1/2 quarts but just keep filling until it starts to pour out of the hole
  20. hope i didnt miss anything and good luck any questions u can hit me up at 732-343-0979; total time for me was a day and a half hardest part of all was getting the trans back on alot alot ALOT of time and playing around and PATIENCE take your time

if you don't like the final drive you can take the one out of the old tranny and swap it out. Even if the new one is HLSD you can swap the gear but keep the differential

The output shaft AND the ring gear must be swapped to achieve the 3.812 final drive. Gotta do both... unlike one dummy I know...

EDIT: edited cause T9 fails me, lol

Yes. It's a direct swap with mucho benefits combined with the other power mods.
