118k I also thought about pulling my engine and rebuilding it bottom end and all. new seals , rings , HG's , waterpump and oil pump , hopefully no machine work needed since I am not burning any oil right now and compression is good I beleive.

or would you leave the bottom end alone and just do things like seals , HG and water and oil pump.

also is it smart to replace the timing chain tensioner while inside there if I do just fix the waterpump?

Option A + Chain Tensioner, no need to replace such a low mileage motor

$800 for a VQ30? nonsense.

what year max?

Remember... if u have the 95-96 model u cannot upgrade to the new 97-99 tensioner w/o replacin the guides. Nissan no longer makes the 95-96 tensioners.
BUt u can try www.courtesyparts.com

I say option A.

I say option A.

how do you replace the guides? anything terribly difficult? that is just so convenient.

Its pretty simple once the timing cover is off, now taking the cover off in the engine bay is a pain, mostly due to clearance.

I say option A as well. Timing chain tensioner isn't necessary but it would be nice to have the '97-'99 tensioner/guides.

Then why consider dropping in a new motor? Do the WP and Chain Tensioner stuff and enjoy the DD.

187k strong here, I feel sad that I won't be able to make 200k w/ this motor before it comes out (3.5 swappin)

becasue doing those I am already in for like 6-700 dollars doing the tensioner and WP.... just seems stupid when a new motor is only 100 more , granted I dont know what could be wrong . I donno at this point I am ready to just shove the car off a cliff . I am VERY frustrated today.

I would agree option A as well. Only problem is that you will have timing chain rattling afterwards (which I am very confused with). My parts guy at the dealer had his whole timing done with new timing chain and guides..even mentioned the gasket to him for the tensioner and still has a little rattling noise...Is there a definite way to get rid of this noise??

Sorry if I am hijacking but its only to help you with what's to come after changing your water pump.
