Tint Question

Hello,

Do our cars come with a factory tint? I as because I just had my windows tinted 50% yesterday and they look as dark if not darker than the 35% I had on my 5th gen. Thanks in advance for your opinions/assistance. Pics should be avail. tomorrow.

a lot of cars come with a very slight tine IN the actual glass, so when you add aftermarket tint, it makes it a little darker than what the tint % actually is.....

your tint guy should of mentioned that to you..... i just did my windows last week and my tint guy put 28% so when it's all said and done, i'll be legal at 25%.....

Yeah some come with that option mine came with the factory tint and now turned purple which sucks and when I drove the 09 Maxima they had tint 200 dollars more when you go to a shop and get a lifetime warranty and no fade to purple for same price or less!!!

your max will have a 2-3% "tint" naturally in the glass. You won't EVER see a 15% tint from the factory though. Is your interior dark? Were you looking through the windows at a darker time of day? (other than high noon?)

For what it's worth, I can't say for certain in other states but here in Mass, if your are caught by a cop with illegal tint, it's a moving violatino and a hefty fine!

I had 40% put on my car so it should meet the legal requirements at 35%. I've never had any of my cars measured by a cop. My last car was measured by an inspection station at 32% too. Most LEO's that I have talked to have told me that they don't care as long as they can see in the car when they pull someone over. That means turning on interior lights, rolling open your sunroof shade in the day-time and opening the windows when you are pulled over. Basically, don't give anyone any reason to get nervous.

i dont mean to 'correct' you but a 'clear' car window will meter 70-84%.thats the # you have to calculate when you tint your car.if you put a 35% film,it will meter SLIGHTY darker ,but there is NO such thing as a 'factory' tinted car.only caravans or minivans or SUV'S come with a 20% factory tint.anything else was applied AFTERmarket.remeber the lower the % the darker the tint......

Are your front windows tinted @ 50% in this picture??

I "REQUESTED" 50% o all windows. My entire car (black on black) looks like your rear even in mid afternoon, partly sunny. It may be slightly lighter, but Im thinking he used 35% all around.

It might just seem to be darker because it's brand-new. Your older tint might have just slightly faded a little over time and what you remember is a lighter tint.

Here in Florida with Black on Black interior for me it 15% front 5%rear. Thats a step down from my last car... it was 5% all around and a tinted font windshield. (Knock on wood) Never a ticket.

maxima 2 no the front window was factory glass no tint...here's one with the 50% on the fronts,it's pretty dark too...can't go too dark as the fronts are illegal to tint in my province.but 50% is plenty dark when your inside the car.

I have 35% tint all the way around. My car is black with black interior. I would say it compares to factory tint in the rear windows found in sport utilities, in other words, you can still see through somewhat

I don't think the Max comes stock with tint unless it's REALLY clear like 90% because otherwise it wouldn't pass inspection in Maryland. I had my boy's shop put on 30%, had the options of 35,30,25,and 5. The darker your interior the better, mine is black leather so it makes the tint look much darker. Most shops will give you a lifetime warranty and charge you 150-200, become friends with someone at a shop and you'll pay closer to 100 like I did.

I have 15% all around as well. I actually wish it were darker. I have the black interior too. I just don't like seeing in the from the outside... dunno I guess it's the Florida boy in me trying to keep all that sun out. I've never had a problem in Florida with my last car with 15% but I've gotten a warning once already here in NY. I'm probably going to re-register my car in Florida once my registration expires. Then hopefully I don't have to worry so much up here in NY, because of the Florida plates.

Here's a picture I snapped today!

Some more information

This may be a little off topic but I wanted to share with you some other tint information that has not been discussed.

This site below shows some of the stats of the major (higher end) films along with their ability to reduce both light and HEAT inside the car.
http://www.smlwindowtint.com/comparison.nxg
From what i have learned through my research its the infrared light that makes the car hot and if you want to reject that kind of light it will cost more money for one of these films. It hurts to spend this much money on tint but my Maxima is black, baddass and lives in Texas.. Nuff said

All prices are 4 windows and rear glass
Winco's -$500
Lumar - $280
Mattico - $270
Limo add $20
Cost to remove dealer tint is $75-$100 (i think)
Sunroof cannot be tinted as the extra heat absorption can cause it to shatter.

If you go to a Winco's dealer they should have a demo to show you the difference of how much cooler the car will be.
Hope this helps..

Danny
