My .02 suggestions on Alternator replacement
My .02 suggestions on Alternator replacement
So on friday im washing down the engine compartment and checking fluids and such and i noticed after spraying it down the alt started smoking(car was not running).Later on about 30 minutes my alarm starts going off and i get a low battery warning on the alarm keyfob.i go out and try to start the car and its no crank battery gone.I gave the car a jump let it run and there were not ses lights or nothing but my battery terminal was telling me 9.58v so the alt was cooked. But anyway this started my great adventure into changing the Alt and some related and not so related parts so here are some of my suggestions on what to do before starting this process. first go out and buy a tensioner assy from the dealer cost me $77 the old one snapped even know i soaked it in PB and heated it up. second buy a new belt because i bet you soaked it pretty good with some form of spray just like i did in hope off getting that tensioner bolt to budge. third go to your local hardware store and pick up 4 metric body bolts 5mm with large washer for the front splash guard and 5 of the plastic round clips which will break for the splash guard to bumper area. fourth this depends on if you want to risk it or not my oil cooler line looked just fine but nada it started spewing the first time i touched it to loosen the bolts to move it out the way so i could drop the a/c compressor(quick handy fix 1/2in heater hose 1 hose joint and 2 hose clamps $8 total from pepboys have these ready just in case because my replacement $22 part is 5 days away. well anyway theres my .02 on what to do before you attempt to do it.
